^^ your view is that of Iosef Stalin as the German's are pressing their Operation Typhoon Sep-Oct 1941 assault towards Moscow. Historically German recon units got close enough to Moscow to see the spires of the Kremlin. Stalin had an evacuation train on stand by and came very close to leaving Moscow. And then came the snow.
On the map above you can see the action around Leningrad to the far right. Left center is Guderian's 2nd Panzergruppe exploiting a huge hole in the Russian lines. The offensive is supplied through Smolensk where the huge stack of units is to the upper left.
