this year, my husband and I decided not to go nuts with presents this year. we just built a big new garage and it cost a fortune, and we plan on doing some other changes this year. PLUS, there's college.
so we said 1 'important' present each. that's it. i picked something out for my studio, he picked something out for the new garage, plus some antique light fixtures. I also got him a few small things (cd, tool box, a couple of shirts). So we open up gifts with my family and we all had tons of things.
But today i was talking to a friend and he asked what I got. I start to name things from my family, but I can only name a few things from my husband- a silver necklace and perfume I picked out while we were both out shopping. that's it. While i'm talking to my friend, i'm thinking that those things are great, but I didn't ask for them and i'm trying to remember what I did ask for.
i remembered. all day i'm wondering why he asked for 2 big gifts and didn't get me the thing I wanted at all. it wasn't expensive and I gave him the link to order it. so, whatever. i'm not gonna worry about it. i assume he forgot i asked for anything.
Then earlier I go into his office and there's a box in the corner from the store I order my supplies from. it's a huge box and i KNOW that's my thing (It's a special work surface).
I find him outside and say, "thank you for the necklace. I really like it." He says he's glad. I said I hoped it wasn't expensive. "Not at all," he says.
i ask if he liked the things I got him and he said he did and then I said, "Good. I liked everything you got me too... um... the necklace... the perfume and... um... oh, that's it I guess."
He looked up at me and said, "that's can't be all i got you."
i said, "yeah, i think it is."
He goes back to brushing the horse and I start to walk away and he yells, "HOLY SHIT I FORGOT!" runs inside and gets it for me.
I thought it was funny. He felt bad though. i don't care... we had such a nice day together on christmas and the next day- that's more important than gifts.
