The issue isn't whether you get care or not. It's whether you get THE SAME level of care. A biased doctor may offer you different, and less effective options, Some of you people are truly idiots.

Care is certainly an important thing. Its kind of sad when you can strive to make these advances and then someone gets treated differently because they're skin color.

if you want to consider it from that point of view it is not just about one's color.
i know many male doctors that are condescending to women but for the most part doctors don't really give a shit about anyone of any color

Okay that was BS. I was a bartender at one point of my life and I can tell you from those days on I think British people are cheap. No tipping bastards. Should you give me a picture of a brit and I will most likely have a bad thought. I'm thinking blacks don't have that great of health insurance. Bad constomers if you're a Dr.

Do you guys really think docs are biased in these ways? I guess I just dont feel it since my attendings are of all nationalities and patients here certainly come from all walks of life. I've never experienced an attending treat someone differently because of their race, nor have I ever treated someone a certain way because of their race. The only thing that I biased about is whether you've had a shower in the last two weeks. That wouldnt change my tx plan though, but I have spent less time with patients because I couldnt breathe due to their stench.
I don't doubt that some are but THIS survey was about race and THIS survey seems to indicate some bias. One has nothing to do with the other.
Example (unrelated to your post)
Bobby and Johhny are the smartest kids in class.
Teacher Mrs. Crabapple asks white Johnny what he wants to study in college. He says medicine. I want to be a doctor. She says great.
Teacher Mrs. Crabapple asks black Bobby what he wants to study in college. He says medicine. I want to be a doctor. She says "I don't think that's a good idea. you should study business instead."
Maybe she doesn't know any black doctors. Maybe she wouldn't be comfortable with a black doctor. Maybe she doesn't think blacks are smart enough to be doctors. Who knows? People once thought we couldn't fly planes or play QB in the NFL. For whatever reason she doesn't think he'll make it as a doctor while Johnny will. Has she been overtly racist or mean? No. Has she denied him or treated him differently nevertheless? Yes. That's what I see from this survey. Not 'get your black ass out of my office'.

Dude I fired my doctor. He got a divorce and most likely got raped by his wife and kids. End result was he was packing in people as fast as he could to make money. The real world doesn't work on morals just money. Some doctors make their money selling drugs. Period. You pay them some money and they give you script for whatever.
True. I discriminate against everyone, especially when they're occupying an ER bed for some BS condition like a cold.
I really would like to see how patients perceive non-white physicians. I've noticed how my colleagues and residents who are African American are often viewed skeptically by white patients.

+1 Same goes for Indian docs. Ive worked with good ones and bad ones....just like every other race.
The ER is a totally different ball game though, you gotta discriminate when people abuse it so much. But more of a discrimination against bull$hit than anything else... My psych rotation was in the ER, and we had one doode with us almost the whole month cuz he wanted a place to stay and was lonely... Total waste of resources.
