Gay men face horrors at the hands of the Elitefitness Message Board and the moderators won't save them

"Some people had their rectums glued up and were then left to die in the desert,"

I find this thread offensive and knot very creative

I found the article particularly relevant. I like to think that EF C&C has very little in common with ISIS.

are you comparing us to ISIS?

No I am highlighting the fact that poor treatment of homosexuals is something ISIS and EF C&C have in common. Not to the same degree of course, but it isn't something to be proud of nonetheless.

Now ur just being ridiculous

You're right, they should be thankful that we don't push them off buildings, we just call them faggots, and call people we want to insult faggots too, they should be grateful!

I know what it's like to have someone use what I am as an insult to someone else. Its really not that bad lestat. It's certainly nothing like Isis. That's like saying every man that uses the word pussy or bitch as an insult to another man is also a woman beater. It's just not the same thing. I'm not saying I agree with it and I do get where you're going but I'm saying it's not really a mountain worth dying on no matter what Twitter and Jezebel say.

For the sake of friendly insults what term would you use as a white heterosexual man as an insult that doesn't disparage a group that isn't a white heterosexual man?

saying "cunt" rarely works out in my favor

just sayin'

asshole, cock, cocksucker, motherfucker, fuck, fuckhead, dick, dickhead, tool, fool, moron, idiot, sucker, ignoramus, pick3, jerk, jerkoff, clown, assclown, insane, foolish, stupid... the list goes on

It is nowhere near as bad as ISIS, that was an extreme example used to prove a point.

It is something we shouldn't do, I'll leave it at that.

Lestat, you said somewhere we should encourage homosexuality. Elaborate on that if you would.

I do not believe I've ever said that because I don't think it is something we encourage or discourage.

I said we should not disparage it, or discriminate against people who identify as homosexual. I said we should not use it as an insult or a way to demean others.

get creative, find some other things to call him, you can have fun with it.

But stay away from fgt or other derivations.

Lets say he was one, its not something to insult him about, we should celebrate it.

I don't think he is one based on discussions I've seen on here, and even if he was, it isn't our business unless he wants to make it our business.

Has he made it your business?

You said celebrate it.

IT's funny that you say he's trolling. I can't tell!

It's poe's law only with extreme liberal views instead of extreme religious views. I cannot distinguish between someone parodying a belief or the actual belief because they've gotten so extreme especially with the speech nazi stuff, comparing it to ISIS lololol

Yea I'm not sure either. Comparing it to isis seemed like a giveaway but idk. I'm curious why he thinks is worth celebrating.

I really never use the word other than here occasionally. I work with two gay guys but you wouldn't know for sure if someone didn't tell you. Cool, respectable dudes. The way it should be, imo. It's nothing worth celebrating and don't push it on my kids but they'll get the same respect from me that they give to me.

precisely...this is one of the few places where i feel comfortable acting a fool and blowing off steam. and i really don't think i have an gay/race/gender/etc hangups and i do analyze my motivations on a regular basis...even more so as i've gotten older...i'm far from a pacifist, but i generally try to do-no-harm.

butt, seriously, if you're an asshole, you're an asshole...and whether or not you like it in the asshole does not enter into my deductive process.

And the moment you go "celebrating" it, you lose a lot of respect from me, like playing the race card. As far as I'm concerned, we're all the same as long as you act like it.

When he said it was worth celebrating I was like, wait a minute!

extreme Left liberal or troll, practically indistinguishable from each other anymore

I agree with that. I don't know any gay person that really gives a fuck about this stuff either. It's just the people in blogs, tv, and on twitter getting all up in arms over it.

Shame is a great way to get people to do what you want. Make them feel guilty and a piece of shit, they'll do anything to avoid being a bad person, so tell them they're bad people if you do this and that and people wont do it. Or say it. Now whoever gets to shame people has control over what words mean now, and gets to make judgments about who is good and bad based off stupid shit that has no meaning at all, whatsoever.

You said celebrate it.

Yes celebrate it I do. We have a large gay pride parade here every year and I run in a 5K race to kick it off. I have won my age division the past two years then I go enjoy the parade and celebrating all of the wonderful and diverse people.

Gays can get in line behind women and children as far as people who I think deserve protection. On second thought, they can step back a few and get behind the elderly and disabled. They ARE men for godsakes, let them take up kickboxing or something. There are little girls in CAR (central African republic) and other outlying areas, that are getting brutally raped daily; next time you open a can of tuna, think about the slave fisherman who is eating gills and fins to bring it to you. We can go on and on about the hoors of the world, but I think forums are an ineffective platform to utilize in fighting something that is basically just juvenile behavior. It's 18 and older, which makes it legal, insensitive, but totally legal to call everyone a teabagging, felching faggot.

They are MEN? really dude? Women can't be gay?

And lol and people after this saying its perfect, wtf?

Just because there is worse shit going on in the world doesn't give license to do things slightly less bad because it somehow doesn't matter as much. We should strive to be the best we can in all areas, particularly the ones we have direct control over.

Women are dikes. And the headline said gay men and I was just being specific to the post. I agree, a little, but I can't read minds. If someone earnestly asked me to stop speaking to them a certain way, I would definitely entertain the thought. But you cant, won't don't do that here, cause it'd make you a fucking fgt.

It's perfect because he gets it.

Slightly less bad? Explain to me how it is wrong always and by default to use an offensive word, so wrong that it's slightly less bad than the rape of children or comparable at all to ISIS. Is it wrong at all to be offensive? When and Why? Is there a time it is okay to be offensive? What if the truth offends someone? Is it wrong to tell the truth if it offends?

You are talking about a hypothetical group of people in your imagination that might be offended by people who don't mean to offend them that isn't actually you. Your feelings on this are valid because they're your feelings and all but they are only valid to you. And with all due respect and no offense, I'm having a hard time caring about your feelings on this because I know you're not offended personally because you aren't homosexual. I have a hard time caring about your feelings on this because you're a man and you're white and you haven't had anyone do this to you personally to know what it feels like or really understand what it's like to have someone use who you are as an insult to someone else. I haven't seen you campaign against the use of any other words on this site that are disparaging to other groups of people as insults that are still in use along with fgt to take your perspective seriously. So all I can gather is that you care because you were told to. From what I can tell and until someone says otherwise, no one has been offended here by the use of the word and no actual harm or offense has been done personally to anyone so I just don't care. I see where you're going but you're not all the way there and I think you're a good guy, but I just find it hard to care.

Wrong I am not talking about a hypothetical group.

You do not have to be offended by something personally to advocate for others.

I care because I have seen the hurt it causes to others, it is as simple as that.

What I don't understand is why people are trying to so hard to defend their right to use what amount to gay slurs. Is that really something worth fighting for?

I'm not defending the right to use a word I don't use or rarely use. I think I've used it less than I can count on one hand, and never referencing a homosexual.

Who does it hurt? When someone here is saying the word fgt as an insult to a non homosexual who are they insulting? They aren't insulting homosexuals.

From wiki:

The word faggot has been used in English since the late 16th century as an abusive term for women, particularly old women,[9] and reference to homosexuality may derive from this,[8][10] as female terms are often used with reference to homosexual or effeminate men (cf. nancy, sissy, queen).

Through ethnographic research in a high school setting, CJ Pascoe examines how American high school boys use the term fag. Pascoe's work suggests that boys in high school use the fag epithet as a way to assert their own masculinity, by claiming that another boy is less masculine; this, in their eyes, makes him a fag, and its usage suggests that it is less about sexual orientation and more about gender. One-third of the boys in Pascoe's study claimed that they would not call a homosexual peer a fag; fag is used in this setting as a form of gender policing, in which boys ridicule others who fail at masculinity, heterosexual prowess, or strength. Because boys do not want to be labeled a fag, they hurl the insult at another person. The fag identity does not constitute a static identity attached to the boy receiving the insult. Rather, fag is a fluid identity that boys strive to avoid, often by naming another as the fag. As Pascoe asserts, "[the fag identity] is fluid enough that boys police their behaviors out of fear of having the fag identity permanently adhere and definitive enough so that boys recognize a fag behavior and strive to avoid it".

^ That is how the word is used here. The juvenile, high school slang that is not about sexual orientation, but about gender.

There is a long history of using both fag and faggot in popular culture, usually to denigrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people. Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman's 1995 documentary The Celluloid Closet, based on Vito Russo's book of the same name notes the use of fag and faggot throughout Hollywood film history.[16] The Think Before You Speak (campaign) has sought to stop fag and gay being used as generic insults.[17]

^ that is not how the word is used here. This is the hurtful use. Even then, it's use still goes back to meaning feminine or not like a man, therefore supposably a huge insult.

Do you understand the difference and the difference with what and who is actually being insulted here on this site and why I don't care if its' not being directly used to a homosexual as an insult to his sexual orientation but as an insult to a heterosexual man? Why I don't care about fgt used towards a heterosexual man because other words like bitch and pussy are widely used as insults towards men and no one said anything. Because when not directed at them personally it's use isn't about homosexuality. It's about gender. I honestly don't think it's all that insulting, personally but you seem to be horrified by the what the word means. God forbid.

I don't care if they're offended by the use of the word as a generic insult to someone that isn't them. I care even less that you're telling me I should care. Tough toenails, gays, welcome to the club!

I had this same conversation with someone once... my grandfather, who was born in georgia and lived and died in north carolina used the N word... the real N word, not the derivative you hear in rap music, very casually, and he argued until his death that it was not offensive and that he knows black people who don't even mind!

There was no changing his mind and I don't hold out any hope that I could change your's. You use whatever words you are comfortable with, I am not here to police you, I started a thread to talk about how we could do things a little better here. I had good intentions.. really just to create a more welcoming place here in C&C.. I don't think we need to ban insults, name calling, and all around rudeness, that reflects some of the people here, I simply think we do not need to use derogatory terms for homosexuals as a matter of common practice. Its really that simple. I know there are worse things to say and to do to gay people. I know there are many different uses for the word faggot, including an english term for a cigarette.. I have no problem with that at all, I have an English friend who was asked me before "If I had a spare fag" and there is ZERO wrong with that.

Please feel free to keep saying it if you wish. I know I am not perfect and can do better.

Here are some thoughts that match my own as well.

I usually avoid these types of discussions but I'm going to weigh in on this one because I think we're moving into the "beating a dead horse" territory.

From the outside looking in, it doesn't look great. We probably can do better. Maybe we should. We certainly have had more actual discussion here lately and I think that's great. It's great to discuss this even.

The thing some need to remember is for a very long time, it's only been a few of us here. Things change. The culture of the room changed. Rightly or wrongly, certain jokes or phrases were used. It's like your parents moving in with you and telling you you're doing it wrong, even though from where you stand, you're probably doing just fine. It's never a bad thing to take a step back and re-evaluate.

The point has been made. People will change or they won't. IMHO

I love your practical common sense approach!

Very refreshing.

I was here for a long time, very active, very involved.

I was away.

I come back from time to time.

When I come back, I noticed some of the things you touched upon.

I also, like most, have grown a bit, changed some opinions and attitudes, and now see things a little bit differently.

I don't mean to be the dad coming in and saying we are all wrong, but I love that analogy.

I too am flawed and say shit that I shouldn't, I'll be the first to say, I can do better!

Thank you caligirl!

I really try to go by the KISS method of living....keep it simple stupid..maybe minus the stupid part, although there was that one time! LOL if only it were one.

I do think the room as a whole has deteriorated and conversation was pretty limited to a few catch phrases. It ebbs and flows and it will probably never be those glory days we hear about. It's been nice to have some real discussion here lately. Maybe that would encourage more to participate. If I start to take this room personally, I know I need to take a break.

We are all flawed...no judgement here. :)

I came upon this place in what was arguably the prime, or the first start of a slight decline. In general, internet message boards were huge at the time and a source of targeted advertising. I loved how diverse things were. I felt like I learned something new almost every day. I wasted a lot of time here, got into petty argument, shared too much, asked too many questions (still do that), I even found ways to do some work with the site as well.

Over time people came and went and it was tough on me. Some of the people who drew me to this site were gone for good and I kept hoping and wishing they would come back (a couple shout outs to High Intensity, Big Buck, HuckleberryFinaplex, smallmovesal, Becoming, and many more people who I can't even remember their handles it has been so long).

I met a ton of people and had fun with most of them.

Then the trolls came, I am not sure if I just got more sensitive, or if the discourse changed, but instead of people coming here to learn, laugh, and have fun, you had people here who's sole purpose seem to antagonize others, to tear people down, to be negative in every single post, to pretend they were something they were not, to lie, to screw people over in real life. I am guessing these people were here all along, but we had so many others who brought something positive to the table that you didn't really notice it. There were tons of moderators and the true "trolls" got reigned in pretty quickly. Many of them would prop up side boards or go to other competing boards.. I wonder if Iron Trybe is still around... or even Ster09ido0logy (you used to not be able to spell that out on this board without it getting masked).

Does AAP ever post anymore? That bro taught me a lot. Mattheskywalekr as well. There are probably at least 100 good bros here that I miss (I include women in that as well although as we all know, they are a small minority here, but thank god that we have some!)

Anyway not sure where I was going with that, just a trip down memory lane.

Then the trolls came, I am not sure if I just got more sensitive, or if the discourse changed,

This makes me think you work in higher education...not the bar scene.

. Is that really something worth fighting for?

firstamendment_0.jpg

Yeah, a lot of men and women would say that it is worth fighting for, and have done such.

You're a fucking idiot. You sit there on your computer wasting most of the day trying to convince a few small people on a steroid chat forum not to call each other the fgt word because someone (nobody that actually posts here) might be offended by it if they so happened to stroll by. That's what you choose to spend your free time on. Something that is going to really change nothing.

Meanwhile, California just sold Nestle 27,000,000 gallons of water for $524. That will be extracted, bottled and sold. Probably not even in your own state.

So do yourself a favor and shut the fuck up already...log out and go do some real good in your community.

Dick head.

lol @ wasting most of the day.

Nice flame though, meaningless, but I have a feeling that was your point.

I think the comparison to something so extreme is actually counterproductive in making your point. The absurdity of the comparison will overshadow anything else, whatever your intention may be.
