Is it the first time she's been married? I think a shower is ok, at that age and having lived with someone for that long, it may be tacky to ask for gifts like you would if you're young and just starting out though. Maybe. I don't know.

Next time I get married I want to use one of those sites that allows people to donate money towards an awesome fucking honeymoon instead of gifts.

This is the second marriage. Idk the standard either. It's probably ok since her first marriage was a very long time ago. We did have to take gifts. We sat around, ate some snacks and opened gifts. All in all about 90 mins. It was ok..not quite as painful as I thought.

I like your idea...money for a trip!!
