And for the average person who doesn't have two Y-chromosomes, getting a gun isn't enough, you have to learn how to use it well enough for it not to be a liability. That's a lot of dedication if it's something you're not particularly interested in, for the vanishingly small odds that you'll ever actually need it.

You do understand the term lethal right ? And yes to your question (redundant) but this isn't about me or what I've done been thru whatever! It's pertaining to your comment about more than liking he's a crim for having a gun and the ignorance behind that statement. I can tell you this I'm no crim, I live in a city with one of the lowest crime rates in the world, and as an American I proudly own and bear arms, and would not hesitate in the least to use lethal force to protect me my loved ones my hard earned and even you if the need arose!

I'm strapped 24/7...it's my right and I choose to use it. I hope that I never have to use it but its better to have one and not need it than need one and not have it IMO.
Few years ago I was taking my son to get an icecream when these 2 crack head lookin mofos are walking across the highway and stand in my lane and don't move. So I slow down and eventually have to stop. They're standing at the front of my Mercedes and work their way to the passenger side where my son was sitting yelling shit I couldn't hear exactly but at that point I said fuck this and started carrying.

needless to say, she knows how to shoot and handle a weapon. That was with a .38 I believe. Cops told her she should have let him get in and used a .357 (what the officer was carrying) and killed him.

I have a 12ga pistol grip riot behind my night stand. A .357 in its case next to my recliner. Theres a .45 in my truck at all times. A .40 in the Mrs' truck. A few .44 mag's in the gun room. Plus we both carry on our person. Her, all the time. Me, when I go to appropriate places. Why? because we can. Not because we think we are gangsta or we think its cool. We dont hold them sideways and shoot. We have a family, we make after hours bank deposits, and because people who are big fans of meth and bath salts dont like to take no for an answer. I go into the city near me frequently in a so-so downtown environment and get pan handlers and annoying fuckers all the time trying to get change, or five dolla, or sell me some groceries that the fucker obviously just stole. People get shot and stabbed in that area sometimes. I dont intend on being one of them.
I live in the country though. I'm not paranoid by any means. Just not naive either. Getting into "it wont happen around here" mentality is dangerous.

Thank god I live Australia is all I have to say.. having to pull a gun 4 times in two yrs wow I have lived in what has been considered a dangerous suburb and no guns get pulled ever noone even has guns.. not saying ny country is better then your just yours sounds pretty hectic.

Ah I didnt catch that, ok. I would imagine people whove had to shoot people dont like talking about it, kinda like combat vets who had to shoot people.
I've done it in both situations and lose no sleep.
In combat, it was a job. Do or die. Can't think too deeply into it or you'll just end up confused.
In the other situation, it was an attempted car jacking/robbery. I was the only carrier in a Ford Excursion in Houston. Six women, my grandmother, two aunts, my sister, mother, and girlfriend. My Brother in Law was inside a towing business trying to get his vehicle back when some wanna be thug approached the back passenger door and smashed the window and held a gun in my grandmother's face.
I told him 4 times to walk away and he rounded to the driver door and started to smash the window, so I opened the door and he put the gun in my face and said to give him the keys. I pulled the keys out of my pocket and held them out, and the idiot pulled his aim off into the ground and reached out to grab them. I use a reverse grip inside holster, so I drew and put him down before he even knew I had a gun. He didn't die, but I wouldn't feel any different if he had, I've killed people before. Sometimes you do what you have to do, including using lethal force.
Oh, and fuck Australia.

Fuck yes. My whole first year home was bullshit. Two 13 month deployments in 3 years, both to helmund province (a complete shithole) will make anyone a little shaky.

Talking about it was a little tough after my first deployment. I didn't really know how to deal with it and not look like a complete heartless asshole, or a huge pussy, or have people think I was either lying or bragging. After my second I was pretty much used to it to the point it became a job and I didn't give a fuck anymore. Turning back into a civilian is the hardest part, that transition is so fucked I can't even describe it. Anger/ depression/ frustration/ sadness/ all kinds of fucked up feelings all at once.
It's been 2 years in december and now I can talk about it openly if someone asks and really don't give a fuck what people think about it

It's a different war. The average Marine grunt on an Afghani deployment these days may have to engage an enemy target two or three times, and in a four year term averages only 2-3 confirmed kills.
My grandfather has flashbacks and nightmares of the Korean war to this day. He spent 24 years and retired a Lt. Col with the Corps, and has had issues ever since.
The WW's and Korea and Vietnam were WAY worse than riding around in a humvee in the desert with far superior weaponry than the enemy and calling in air support any time you get into shit

Indeed. He's outlived my father by 36 years as well as my uncle who died at age 18. He's as hard as they come.
On a related note, My grandmother's brother was shot down in the Northern Atolls in WWII and rescued by the natives who hid him from the Japanese. He eventually died there, but my grandfather says there is an unmarked grave of his that I must go see one of these days.
