People trying to add you to FB

I feel rude when I don't accept "friends" on FB, but I find that my clients try to add me and last night was my last class after 7 months with the same people, and they were all saying they should add each other to FB.
I on the other hand do not want clients, teachers or classmates to add me.
I'll be seeing these same student in July for another course, so don't want any tension b/c of this
I will direct them to my business page, but they seem offended.

I worry about offending my clients who want to add me. I've added only a small few, but then need to watch everything I say.

What is the protocol for this situation?

Use friend groups to limit what they see. Only my inner circle group gets to see everything. Other may only get my main page.
 
From the Home screen click on the word Friends on the left.
You can Create a list or use the Facebook built in ones.


Close Friends: Your best friends, who should show up more in News Feed.
Acquaintances: Friends who should show up less in News Feed.
Restricted: Friends who can only see posts and profile info you make public.

Put the clients in Restricted and when you post something they won't see it unless make you share it as Public, meaning EVERYBODY on FB can see it, as opposed to just everyone on your Friends list. I don't think anything on my profile is Public.
 
I have friend lists too, Blue. I was saying this in nydj's thread.

I have a group for work people for example, they're blocked from all pictures and my default status privacy settings are set to always block work people from seeing my statuses....but I let them see certain ones like when I post about our museum.

And like back when Iggy and I first got together I blocked only EFers from seeing my relationship status (though iggz didn't so that did a lot of good lol) and I didn't take it off until everybody already knew.

Restricted is a bad idea.

Using the restricted list means they don't see your statuses unless you make it public, so EVERYBODY on Facebook can see it.

I would never make a public status.

If you make your own list and block just that list from your statuses, you can let them see a status by making it friends only...so only your friends see it as opposed to the world.

Ummm, no you didn't say what I just said.

To let someone on restricted see a status, you need to let the whole world see it....like you said. What I'm saying that you did not say is that if you put those people on a custom list instead of the Restricted list, you can make statuses available to them when you want to without making them available to the whole world.

Remember when you said I was pathetic bc I didn't read what you said properly? :rolleyes:

If the two of you agree to leave each other alone, then honor it. If one person wants to be left alone, I expect the other to honor that too. However that works both ways and if the person wanting to be left alone makes comments about the other, then it's fair game.

Listen, this PITA stalks every one of my posts. I have had him on ignore for a while, yet he was relentless. It's funny when Chris does it, it's creepy when this guy does it.

If you block new fb friends from seeing posts, they can still see old posts, right? I mean really, I don't want my clients watch me play the drums a little tipsy. I need to keep some secrets!

I get a lot of strange people trying to add me too. I believe MOST of them are fake profiles so they can see my wall. I have a strong feeling I know who does that too!

I haven't baited her in some time. For the last few week (with one exception) I leave the thread clean as long as she does.

And i love you too -- But be careful with the e-knight stuff. Women can sense those guys and manipulate them with a complement here and there. I never fell for the "I have a secret crush on you :)" k-messages, but I'm guessing a few guys on here have.
 
FB is really not for me. I don't think I've posted anything in about a year. I was interested for about 4 months. Unless you're selling something, have real life long distance friends/family, LOVE posting pics of yourself frequently, or just generally enjoy sharing your daily activities with everyone all the time there doesn't seem to be much point in it. Not knocking anyone for digging it though.

in approximately 2 semesters i won't be forced to fraternize with mindless 18-20 year olds so that account will be shut down asap. Cant stand that site. It was ok for awhile but now we get about every other week some new tidbit about what FB is collecting on you, the phone numbers of your friends that use their stupid smartphones to log on was something else. I mean who fucking cares anyway what restaurant you just walked into....the girls who use that feature just astound me, talk about throwing up the nal to your internet stalker ALL girls on FB claim they have. :rolleyes:

I use FB for work and pleasure. It's been an amazing tool for my business since I sell products on there and I would say about %25 of my clients come from there.
Never did I think it would be a great business tool, but it is.
Also, I NEVER watch TV so I would not even know what was going on in the news without my FB feeds!

its actually interesting to watch the tactics they BOTH use to instigate each other

I think one does it out of prolonged response with some genuine irritation...and the other does it because they get a response and its a little bit of entertainment
