I'm so Totally, Weirdly Wide Awake

I Told You So ...
EF VIP
Have been since 2:30 ... tried to meditate, failed ... not really interested in watching t.v. (though it's playing in the background) ... had a drink, took a pill -- that was over an hour ago and I might as well have had an espresso ... bored but can't concentrate enough to read ...

This Sucks.

Anybody else awake?

:wavey: 4:22 am and im up lol

You're at work (sorry bout that) but at least you have a reason. I no longer work but am still normally up with hubby at 6:20 on weekdays, sometimes 5:20 if he has to go in early. This is not normal for me. Plus my mind is ... fractious ... if I can't sleep at least I can usually chill and meditate/contemplate.

HEY, Nan ... what neurotransmitter would cause/be associated with feelings of excitation/anticipation?

depends on the physical reaction experienced, is it causing, sweat palms, hyperventilation, hyperactivity, difficulty paying attention?

I've said it before and I maintain it, drinking before bed is bad, affects sleep and REM patterns, can also be associated with nightmares and restlessness, as ridiculous as this may sound find a comfortable position and literally start counting up or down(1-300)or down (687 to 1) however do this out loud, you'd be surprised how tiring this process can be for the mind at night, most people are out in a couple of minutes.

No, much more severe than that. I'm not talking about myself, it's a long story, I'll try to condense it: My dear friend's fiancee's twin brother is a very messed up dude health wise to begin with, but over the past three months he's had a cycle of behaviors that have landed him in the hospital. He gets excited about a positive anticipated event (i.e., valentine's day, st. patrick's day, easter) then he goes on a two day binge of eating ridiculous amounts of meat, then he has a physical crash, like sleeping for nearly two days and thereafter lands in the hospital disoriented and on the verge of physical collapse with hyperammonia.

He's epileptic and slightly developmentally challenged so he's on a bit of a pharmacy to begin with.

But I'm thinking about how women need a mood boost perimenstrually and will crave carbs to increase serotonin levels ... I get a vibe that what's going on with him is sort of the reverse of that, he's over amped and the protein cravings are his brain's way of trying to rebalance itself.

And before you ask, yeah, he's under numerous doctor's observations. They want him drug into the hospital for testing when he goes on another meat binge. It's just curiousity on my part. How things work facinate me, particulary anything neurologic. I may not be a transcriptionist anymore but I still find the physiology of the brain facinating.

Why are you up?

Holy crap, it's nearly 5:00 ... the birds have been singing for over half an hour now. Happy bastards!

I've had insomnia for closing on 20 years now. I honestly sleep the same whether I drink before bed or not.

I'm familiar with alcohol induced insomnia, it breaks my deep sleep cycle around 4:00 a.m. Normally I wake up and will lie awake for nearly an hour but usually I can chill and my mind is quiet. Sometimes I'll meditate. It's not so bad, really. This is different. I also feel unpleasantly warm ... and no, it can't be a hot flash, they don't last 2.5 hours ...

I'm gonna go sit outside and listen to the birds for a bit ...

I have alcohol induced insomnia right now. I got home after 4am and up at 6 (cat got me up) but I cannot fall back to sleep.

In the past, I used to have the worst insomnia, then I got back on EF, read Plunkey's posts and bang, right to sleep! Try it!
Seriously, I had it bad, but developed a system that works for me. Rarely do I not sleep and stay asleep

You'll need a lot more than an Internet certificate from naturopathy correspondence school to understand Plunkey's posts.

And it's too late for you to learn anyway. You can't teach an old dog new tricks.

I have been getting at least 9hrs of sleep lately. I think im getting old and needing more sleep, 20s are hard on a gal's bones. Anyways, here is my new sleep method and I passout pretty quick. Temp to 60-65 degrees. Nice blankie, get naked, lights off. I have this ambiscience bundlepack app that I play real soft. I never take any melatonin any more, no wine, and no laying around in bed, just sleep like a babe in no time!
