Not for nothing, but is there really a consumer based middle class in China? My ex-stepdad does business all over the world and when he came back from China he said he saw poverty like he never imagined. Dude does business in S. America, Russia, all over Asia, Costa Rica, etc.

No, there's not. Not at all.

But then again if you're knowledge of China was only developed inside a Beijing Marriott during a breakfast buffet you wouldn't know that.

As I mentioned above, China is by far one of the most poverty stricken nations in the world. The 15-20% or so of people that actually make more than $5,000/year primarily congregate in Beijing, so if you've only experienced the city center I'm sure it skews your perception a bit.
