Alright, cool. I'll probably end up loosing sleep for the first couple of nights doing it that way, but it's all good. Appreciate the info!

Re: Moya's Log of Insanity: Mr. Olympia Training Edition... Sponsored by IronMagLab

friday... 7/1/11
deads
warmups, 5x135, 3x225, 2x315, 1x405, 1x455
work
1x495
1x520
0x550... not good... had it moving pretty well off the floor, then when it got stuck at my thighs i was an idiot and held on and tried to fight it... feeling some pain in my left lower back/hip area... ive felt worse, but im pretty sure im ready for a deload now... im happy with the 535 i got last week... i will plug that into the calculator and try and hit 565 by the O...

back squats...
yes, i know, lower back hurts i must be an idiot... i wanted to get a feel for the injury, and id say its not too bad... i like to work through my pains, seems to work for me at least... and its been over 2 months since ive squatted...
8x135
6x185 easing into the weight...
3x225
3x275
add belt
1x315 lot of power out of the hole...
1x365 strong...
add light knee wraps...
1x405 i have no doubt i could set a squat PR in a month if i wanted to... so no signifigant losses here... injured area was notable while geting the bar on my back and walking it out, but through the lift it really didnt hurt any more than just walking around...

bench press
8x135
5x185
3x205
2x215
1x225 went up fairly easy...

power shrugs/rack pulls
8x315 shrugs
5x365 shrugs
1x405 pulls
1x455
1x495 solid 10 sec static hold
1x545 5+ sec static hold
1x565
1x585
1x495

not happy about this lower back... not happy about missing 550... upon reviewing the video, it appears im not keeping my chest up? i will post it up later this week, really embarassing though...

Strong dude!

But your back isn't tight and your shoulders could be pulled back more. But it's probably a bad idea to try and fix form when you're already training for a competition.

Can't post links yet because of this stupid rule here. But you tube Matthew Allen 562lbs Raw Deadlift Attempt. All natural and raw. Perfect form!

That's kind of your back and shoulders should be.

ok... i agree and i disagree...
i am ALWAYS working on form and correcting myself when needed... if you would have looked close there are worse errors, like the bar rolling forward almost out to my toes before i pulled...
i disagree with your comment about my back... trust me, it is tight, or nothing even close to 500 is going up... i dont think i could pull 400 without tightening up...
now, having watched your vid, not sure if that is you or not, i also took it upon myself to watch his 3rd attempt...
the 562 was clean... pretty good lift for anyone, although i noted he is a 220...
then his 3rd attempt was 579 i believe... didnt get it off the floor... how perfect do you think his form would have been if he had gotten that up? see what im getting at? the closer to your max, the more break you get in your form... i have stronger legs, and although i make a conscious effort to keep my chest high, gravity sometimes likes to say otherwise...
ive got over 3.5x my bodyweight pulling me down, whereas he only was pulling like 2.5x...
check out vids of some of the top pullers in the world, the lifts dont always look so perfect... best example i can think of off the top of my head is Konstantin Konstantinovus (sp?)...
im NOT advocating trying to pick up weight you are not ready for, or lifting with loose form... but one thing for sure at every meet ive done, everyone has always commented on my technique... yet i have always stirved to improve it... even when i make a lift...

No, that's not me. He's 214 in the video (mostly a fat gain, he walks around usually at 202 but had some bad meals here and there!). But you can't forget, he's all natural. Only thing he takes is food for nutrition and enhancement. And also note that you're in a sumo stance, not conventional. Sumo is definitely an easier lift.

He missed 579 because he couldn't do it. Not because his form or anything.

His form at 562lbs is perfect and that's what everyone in our strides for. In your 535lbs lift, your upper back is pretty rounded. I've been to a lot of competitions too... your form definitely looks better than most but that's because most deadlifts look like total crap at competitions.

You're super super strong... please don't take offense. But your upper back can definitely use tightening.

Re: Moya's Log of Insanity: Mr. Olympia Training Edition... Sponsored by IronMagLab

yes, i definately agree on the upper back... that is why ive benn working on power shrugs and rack pulls a lot lately...
now im not even going to get into the natural vs enhanced debate... but keep in mind im only on a trt dose of test and a single oral... it is not a huge cycle by any means...

sumo is not 'easier' than conventional... they are different, each having advantages and disadvantages... the top SHW's like magnus, bolton and KK all use conventional, why? because its 'easier' for them... to say it is easier is ridicculous, because if it were, then your friend would have pulled sumo if he cared about putting up his best numbers... i can SLDL 475 off a 3 inch box for reps, i just like the feel of sumo more...

again, had he made that 3rd attempt off the floor, HOW do you know his form would remain perfect? it seems his weak link is off the floor, whereas mine is about the half way point, but really the form is not even comparable because he never made it to that point in his lift...

Re: Moya's Log of Insanity: Mr. Olympia Training Edition... Sponsored by IronMagLab

Sumo absolutely is an easier lift overall. You do less in the lift. Your range of motion is a lot less vs a good form conventional. Some people might prefer whichever stance due to comfort and/or weaker back or legs or what have you. But if you train sumo after training conventional, your weights would change accordingly.

What do you mean natural vs enhanced? You don't think the lifter in the video could do over 600lbs on steroids? Or do you think steroids isn't as much as a helper as people think?

And his back broke like that because the lift was too much for him. He's never done 579lbs and it was at a contest and he thought he'd give it a shot. He doesn't do sumo because he doesn't. He doesn't care about doing more weight, he cares about being stronger. That's not a knock against anyone. But If you could do a very similar lift but with less weight and be equally as effective... it's a safer bet. I bet he could jump 30-40lbs if he went sumo.
