It's disgusting, disrespectful and degrading.
There's nothing cute about it and everytime I see it I think, "trash" and what's worse is when mother and daughter are dressed alike.
I don't care if people want to call me a snob, that's how I feel and how I was brought up and if I were to have children they would be raised proper and lady like regardless of how the any pop star is dressing.
I agree to some extent, but there is no accounting for bad taste. And where does one draw the line? Would a T-shirt that said "Foxy" on a 17 year old girl be considered trashy? It is just a T-shirt on the one hand. But yes, if you wear a T with some silly message printed on it, it may or may not attract negative attention or at the very least, a negative attitude from those that see it.
Obviously a T that sez "porn star" will be received differently than a T that sez "angel". But I think that everyone needs to realize that this isn't all that much different than a young boy/man wearing a T with a marajuana leaf on it. The only difference is that one has a sexual connotation.
It is JUST a T-shirt.
I think that rather than making much ado about nothing (as if the originator of the thread honestly thought that a T truly meant what was printed on it
) it would be better to take the time to point out to our children (both male and female) what it is that WE think when we view people that "look a certain way" and TRY to look past the outer cover of each person.
I recently (and am VERY EMBARRASSED to say) learned that a woman (always very congenial and pleasant to me) at my gym who I ASSUMED was "nothing more than a stripper" (albeit a nice person) WAS GETTING HER PHD IN LAW SCHOOL. She had a job at a correctional facility and specialized in the area of sex offenders. How did I come to make this judgment? BASED PURELY ON HER APPEARANCE!
She was slender with HYUGE fake boobs with long bleached blonde hair.
I almost passed out when she told me what she did for a living AND how well-traveled she was. I almost felt like saying, "What is wrong with you? You are an extremely bright articulate woman. Why on earth would you want to look like a dancer?" Then realized that what was going on was not about her at all... IT WAS ALL ABOUT ME AND MY PERCEPTION.
