depends on how serious the secret is. If the friend tells me they found out they have cancer, or are pregnant, then no. Smaller secrets, sometimes.

I have had so many tell me. "Now don't say this to anyone, or promise you don't tell anyone else, etc." Then they tell me something. Which I totally forget within 5 minutes. I figure why bother remembering something that someone doesn't want spread about.
Usually then soemone comes up to me later and says..."You know bla bla bla" and its the same thing the perons asked me not to repeat.
So I grill the person telling me along the lines of "Did they ask you not to repeat this?" which opens another whole fun conversation for me about the lack of trustworthyness and ethics on the part of the person telling.

Secrets are a touchy thing. Once you've had all of your secrets exposed though, it can be quite liberating.
I won't give information to people that would hurt them if somebody knew it about me. People who do this are quite selfish as they care more about lightening their load then about what is good for their friends/family.
I've been on the bad end of this because people know that I am very trustworthy, in the end when their secret was exposed I got burned because I didn't tell....

Since then, I keep to myself and don't get involved with people anymore.
