the doctor wants to put my gf on zoloft. she has anxiety and gets kind of angry but she is not depressed. i thought this was a medicine for depression. i think she just needs a benzo like klonopin or xanax when she has a bit of anxiety or is very frustrated. any input is appreciated, should she try it or what? how long does it take to clear if she finds that she does not like it? also my biggest question is will it fuck with her libido. thank you all. i know this is the roid forum but i know you guys

doctors don't put you on benzo's because they are addicting. and the only replacement for benzo's is more benzo's. anti-D's have many other uses than being strictly for depression. if she's reached that stage, there's prolly a good indication that she needs them.

and i'm going to save you from having to read a bunch of different posts from guys who are going to push the dope they're on. everyones body reacts differently. it might take her a year to find a compatible drug. but it's trial and error. and yes, her libido might fade a bit, but it will come back to normal, once the drug has sufficiently saturated itself into her system.

ok cause i take klonopin and i do not feel addicted. i take it when i get anxiety or severe stress and ive done so for 6 years safely. i agree most guys abuse it. she is just so not depressed that it seems weird its just the worrying and thinking about things too much

wel, doctors typically are guessing when they prescribe psych meds. it's best that she sees a shrink, if she isn't already. klonopin are a it different than xanax. xanax are almost evil, because you constantly have to take more. i went to taking .25mg a day to 1mg over the last 8 or 9 months. and it makes my moods swing wild when i do & don't take it.

Check the Zoloft website. I beleive they can answer your detailed questions there.

It's a known fact that Anti-Depressants have an effect some peoples Libido. Notice, I said "some peoples". Not everybody is affected the same. This drug can be prescribed for depression, anxiety or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It's a drug under the catagory of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor. Meaning, the reuptake of Serotonine is blocked causing more Serotonin in the brain which demonstrates a "good Feeling" etc... Check their website for more info etc...

my personal experience with zoloft wasnt very good. It made me feel like a zombie with no emotions whatsoever compared to other meds i've taken. I'm currently weaning myself off lexapro. I hate the fact of being dependent to get through situations. Personally i'd buy her some oxycalm and try to deal with it on her own or go to counseling before hopping on a drug to take care of it. Oxycalm works pretty good for me. My anxiety and frustrations are mostly fueled from work. Its all how you deal with situations. Hope this helps.

I wish it made me like a zombie, didn't do shit for me and actually amplified my OCD. In regard to your comment "Its all how you deal with situations" . . . maybe for you, but chemical imbalances are real, and sometimes you need medication to "deal" with that.

I've been on zoloft, effexor, and lexapro for depression and anxiety. Of the 2 anxiety is what i have been going through now. I now chemical imbalances are real. Since my anxiety i've never been able to think clearly. Anxiety isnt something that i've had through my whole life. At a point i was more level headed and thought a lot more cleared then started over analyzing situations and blowing things up worse than they really are and etc... Things have been easier for me calming myself down and really trying to think things clearly and looking at the reality of situations. Point is, before she jumps on anything try to talk her into seeing a counselor. Something has triggered the anxiety that she has. Meds arent a permanet fix and more than likely it'll take more than one med to figure out what really works for her w/o the side effects.
