Your Favorite all purpose Kick.

Big Rick Rock

istrator
What is your favorite all purpose Kick? why? please explain some of the technique behind it.

Kidding boys,just kidding^^^^.

Front kick. The jab of my leg arsenal, it sets up everything else. Easy to pop, quick and simple, eometimes you even get lucky and land it. lol

Thai shot. Powerful, often stop a fight with one shot( unless with another thai expert).
Most powerful of my kicks.( i have thick legs so add the "cut" and the leg does the rest).

Dunno bout all purpose- but I love from the clinch: Rear knee to opponents outside thigh then, release clinch with push & front switch kick to inside thigh. I love to hear that "kack!" when the thai kick lands square.

Amen to that. I like the look on the guys face when you land it just right, he has that "fuck! you got me" look in his face.

I have to say my favorite "all-purpose" kick has to be the Thai push/front kick. It is easy to throw, and easy to master.
On the street: since there is no real pivoting/turning involved it can be performed with unconfortable footware like boots and stuff (unlike the Thai roundhouse.). Since it is staright forward, it is the kind of kick you can throw while in a narrow hallway, crowded room or tight space. The effect of this kick (when connected right) is also pretty cool. A push/front kick connected correcly should send your opponent flying back a good 7-10 feet :) depending on your strenght and his weight :)

If your oppent steps back and you miss it, you are not left too vulnerable. Missing a full force roundhouse means you will expose you back for a fraction of a second... (Might be a good way to bait them in for a spinning fist)

In the ring it is great when going up against guys with better hand skills than you, it is a good way to slow them down, corrupt their ablility to put combinations together, and it helps you set them up for your own combinations.

PS: I still love to fire off some hard Thai roundhouse kicks, it is my bread and butter in the ring. For street and usefulness the push kick gets my vote though.

Definitely the front kick! With boots on it could do some real damage to a person's gut or to his knee. The only real problem, however, is a person moving to the side--if he's really quick, he could get your back.

My favourite kick is a thai round kick to the ribs since that is my most powerful kick
any kick with my right leg really
head kicks too
but in all honest opinion the most potent kick on the streets or in the ring is a beefy leg kick

thai kick or a crunching kick to the inner knee/hip (i cant remember the full nam but its like a puch kick but with the foot allowed to internally rotate

Yup, that too :D

Only kick I even practise anymore is the MT leg kick. I don't like leading with it myself but rather finishing a combination of punches with one. Like Jab-R Cross-R Leg Kick.

Try a nice little push kick at the knee cap when the guy is steping towards you... Better if is hits just as he is planting his foot on the ground.

Only on somebody you don't like though cause it can blow that shit right out.

a "gracie" front kick aimed near the opponents forward knee.

its a kick used mainly to initiate a takedown you are always moving forward and never really off balance.. normally i dont want to connect with it really just get a reaction so i can shoot in..

if it connects normally i clinch and initiate a takedown.. im not much for striking because i am far to good looking to trade punches..

MT kicks to the legs are great if im fighting someone much faster than me.. rare but it does happen..

The best and favorite kicks i would use in a fight would be all the kicks managable that are in a low destructive manner. In my opinion too high of kicks leave one's self very much open for off balancing counters. Sometimes in a fight balance is everything and when u throw a kick your already off balance.

dont forget that there are people out there who are fast enough to pull spin kicks and high kicks off in a street situation.. so never rule out that someone might try a technique even if its the last thing YOU or your instructor/partners would try...

does it have to be a kick
or will any foot manuver work
my favorit thing to do with my feet is to step on the other guys foot or otherwise distract him to set up for my hands

other then that I like to kick at the knee from behindto try to buckle them
hook or round is fine

however I hate the ax kick

lke a stop kick
I think it's good to follow that with a hook or straight cross type
depending on how their weight shifts from the stopkick

that's a good point
if you get stuck in the 'we do not train this so no one can do this' mindset you WILL get hurt in a fight someday, assuming you get into them frequently

I'm a pretty good example of that actually
people look at me and I'm pretty thick so they expect me to be slow
they always wind up with a shocked expression on their face when they find out I have better hand speed then they do
(it's not that big a deal if I spar someone my size cus they are used to people being faster then they are because we do tend to be slow, but if I spar a friend or someone that is smaller and used to being faster then a big person they always comment on my quickness after)
sadly they also comment on how bad my grappling is
I really need to improve that
