If you were asked to give 1 recommendation to someone who would follow it faithfully for the rest of their life, what would you recommend to them for living a longer life?

My rec: do at least 30 mins moderately paced exercise each day.

Quit breathing and eating. Anytime O2 and nutrients combine to generate energy Free Radicals are created that over the course of a lifetime ravage the body and destroy it.
 
Always try to leave yourself in a position to where you're never stressed out or worrying. Ever notice when people in there 90's or 100 and over are asked what was the secret to them living so long? They usually answer that they had a relatively stress free life.

Those 90's and 100 year olds may have had a stress free life, but are they living? The one's I've seen look like shit and are usually rolling around in wheelchairs and the like.

Maybe there are some that are somewhat functional at that advanced age, but I haven't met them. If I look and function like them when I'm that age I only hope that a Jack Kevorian successor will be around. If not I guess I'll have to ask my buddies Smith & Wesson for help.

I assume the whole point to life is to just LIVE IT, and not treat it like this priceless baseball card you've got to keep in mint condition by putting in two layers of plastic and never exposing to the sun. Yea, it may last a lot longer than others, but is length the only measure of a healthy life?? I cherish my quality of life so much more than my length. If you just live, and don't abuse yourself, the duration of your life will take care of itself.

Like Zebo said, and what so many others have already discovered is essential to a quality life: "Moderation is the key." The same principle was emphasized during the prime of the Classic Greek culture, but they just referred to it as balance. Life as we kow it, functions according to balance.

And since when the hell has exposure to the sun become dangerous???
 
Reduced calorie intake. Studies on some lower animals show increases in lifespan of 50% from calorie reduced diets. I know we're not rats but I think it's a safe bet that if you operate at the minimum food intake to support good energy levels you will live much longer. Ever seen a fat centenarian?
