YO Djimbe I'm calling you out

Yarg :

Could I ask what it is yorue looking for from your Brother's MA experience ? THat is one ofthe most Important things to me when looking at suggesting or Reccmending a school .

Okay :

May I PLEASE Suggest you take him to a school thats only 4.4 miles away in stead ?

The only way I can describe the difference between the two headmasters is it would be like the difference between taking someone to your average BJJ Purple belt , and then taking them to Rickson or Rigan . This is the kind oif guy ppl move to Train with . One of his Students lives hear me and HIS sstudents are monsters . This guys Studentsa and Grandstudents are MONSTERS in the CMA/Lei Tai Fighting Scenes , and the guy himself is respected as amongst the top 10 in the WORLD by very nearly everyone .

Ahh man, its in friggin Richmond though. Here in Vancouver, Richmond is about 1.5 hrs from my house and like 50 bus transfers. ANd since hes 12 my mom will definately not allow him to go alone, and I can't chaperone him all the time. Plus, I no longer have a car, and my mom takes the other one to work. Can you tell me what styles that new guy teaches? HeBei Hsing I
Baguazhang
Tai Chi Chuan
Chi Gung

As in their description? (Striking, grappling emphasis, etc etc)

Well to answer ur first question, I just want my brother to have a strong foundation in a martial art plus good cardio and ofcourse the intrinsic respect and pride that comes with an MA. Why not the first guy? He's a Shaolin monk! lol. I was thinking of taking him to Judo down the road or Kyokushin till I saw that website.

There are SO many reasons , many of them having to do with his assertion of being a "Shaolin Monk" itself . The history of said organization in recent yeras has been one of Deception and Governmental Manipulation at BEST . Theres just SO much to it .

Here is a Secondary Reccomendation in your area . Also HIGHLY respoected in the Community .

Baguazhang
Xingyiquan
Tai Chi Chuan

Okay , your Descriptions :

Hsing I Chuan OR Xignyiquan :
Translates as "The Form Of Will Boxing" , or "Mind Over Matter Fist"
A Brutal , Blunt , Straightforward Striking method first , a Deceptive method of Slamming the opponent to the FLoor second . Xingyi focuses on five different ways toi hit a person with ANY part of the body , and deches even the smallest person Knockout power , then works on Delivering that Power to any location on an Opponent . The Five types of Striking are : Splitting , Crushing , Drilling , Pounding and Crossing .

Baguazhang
Translates as "The Eight Directions Boxing" or "The Eight Trigrams Palm"
Bagua is the hardest to explain . But its a Geometrically based system that is like learning the ultimate in what is called "Ring Generalship" . It allows you to see all the angles and learn to work them better than your Opponent . Its probably got the best Footwork of any Martial Art in the existance . Its as Circular as Xingyiquan is Linear , and the two are often taught togehter . Baguazhang was also one of the arts Ueshiba studied in China to help him to make Aikido . Many of the Movements are DIRECTLY taken from Bagua without any editing .

Taijiquan :
It translates as "The Fist of the Great Extremes" or "Boxng of the Grand Ultimates .
Taiji is a VERY stary system when taught well . It has every THrow that Wrestlign does ,all of the "Nullification" skills of Aikido , and a Spiraling Power Generation that causes one to hit like a TRUCK ! Its really a style that is EXCELLENT in the "Clinch" range of play , and a really good Taiji guy will stick to you like a vat of warm wet taffy absorbing all of your energy and never taking a bruise . Mas Oyamas only defeat in Combat came from a Taijiquan Stylist .

Chi Gung is like Yoga for Martial Arts . It gets your Joints and Ligaments Stronger and more Flexible and makes sure that you can do the movements needed to perform the activities Correctly . Its very Healthy , and not really DIRECTLY Martial . Its just good for you overall , and Teaches you Breath Control as well .

Bro, I am kind of skeptical bout this guy because for some reason I have this stigma around 'self-created' arts. Is this guy legit tho? I am sure the Shaolin dude was a real monk , on the other hand. I do want to know if your KF connections know anything abou the monk.

Well , The Guy just thinks its Clever Marketing . Hes really just Teaching Internal MA , but its like him saying Hes ... well , lets say its "Millitech Style MMA" , or "Kronk Syle Boxing" Its one of those wierd thyings where a Foreigner THINKS hes doing something cool but dosent realise that hes kind of Breaking a Social Faux Pas in his new Homeland . His Students Knock ppl out in Lei Tai Tournaments , and that is what speaks to me .

Real Bhuddist ? Yeah . The MA that he Teaches is closer to what the Beijing Wushu Team does than what pl at Shaolin actually did though . THe fact is that Wing Chun , Mantis , and IMA were the REAL Fighting Systems of Temples , not Long Fist .

Ok update:

because this Shaolin guy is a chimp, and the other dudes are too far away from the house , my brother (who happens to be extremely lazy) decided to just sign up for his highschool wrestling team last week. Which is pretty dope b/c I always regreted not going into wrestling in HS. plus, whenever I get back home from BJJ class, I just show him the technique we just learnt + drilled into our heads like 1hr ago while its still fresh in my mind. i find going over such minor details over again and teaching it has totally upgraded my game plus taught him alot of stuff. He wants to start BJJ , but everyone at my clubs like 18+ and all atleast 160lbs-300lbs. Hes ATM 105 so hes still got along ways to go. He says hes gonna join BJJ at 16 after 3 yrs of wrestling under his belt plus the countless hrs of the beatdown lessons he'll get from me, so by that time he should be that of a very mediocre blue belt (heopfully- since he'll just learn the exact same shit im learning). plus theres a kyokushin school down the road, so hes gonna join that later on as well. Goddamn, I wish I started this early (started at 18).

Thats Sweet . I always try to Encourage North Americans to take advantage of the Free Training that Wresting Offers them whenever I can . It gives you a good Work Etic for later on , as well . The only problem is that in a lot of Cases it breeds "Martial Elitism" thats REALLY hard to beat out of some ppl .
