Anyone have any comments on them, good or bad. I am looking to buy either the Yamaha R1 or Suzuki GSX-R 1000. Anyone have any info/comments on which one might be a better bike.

what is your riding experience like and what are your height and weight stats?

600 F4I/F3 can suit his needs if he's total rook

whats his riding experience???

i dont know his experience

I wouldnt object to an older (carbed) 600. The new 600's damn near run 10's in the 1/4 mile

Bro better start off with something a little less harsh...

just sayin.

ideally those are best to get feet wet for sure...^^

and brand new they are too bad on pricing
Yep, I have ZERO experience so this was a great choice by me and not to costly $$ wise. Figure by next Spring I'll be 100% ready for a bigger ride and can either sell the 500 or keep it for fun

get a late 90' GSR 750 for a first bike
I LOVED my old gixxer, learned to ride on it, was fun as hell. two thumbs up for carburation!

I have ridden a 600 before in highschool, but most of my experience comes from dirt bikes. stats are 24yo, 6ft, ~180lbs. I was going to start on the R6 but figured to buy the R1 since I was going to get rid of the R6 in about a year anyway. (whenever I got more comfortable) I dont really plan on racing or anything. Just for personal enjoyment

what years are you looking at?

the new R1's and GSXR 1000's are almost as fast as a busa, actually accelerate quicker but dont quite have the top speed

you being 6' depending on your physique- will most likely fit the R1 better. the GSX-R will need slight mods to fit a 6' rider.
both are insane bikes...
be careful considering a 165HP sportbike for the street as your first ride.

which gsxr? 1000 or 1300?
Just getting an idea, im 6' at about 195 looking at getting a busa eventually

Back in 1984 one of my best friend who grew up on dirt bikes walked into a dealership and said he was ready for a street machine and wanted the fastest one they had.

Couple days later he walks out with a Honda VF1000
Dude could ride that bike like a mofo and never did drop it LOL

My question: what would the same situation be today? what bike?

yamaha R1 For A First Bike??? Hell Fucking No!!!! Yamaha R6 For A First Bike? Good Luck Cause They Are Unforgiving, Shoot For 636 Or 600rr

he didn't say it was his first bike, did he?? but, while we're on the subject, while i tend to agree with you to a certain extent, i think people tend to be a little dramatic about this subject. . .for example. . .my training partner bought his first bike, a yamaha r1 (fantastic bike btw), nearly two years ago and he's still alive. . .he's pretty young but he's pretty responsible and respectful of the fact that the damn thing will go 105 in first gear. . .it's a toy. . .but it ain't no toy. . .what matters more than anything is the mindset of the owner and that person's understanding of the machine and their willingness to learn and their understanding of their limitations. . .you can easily kill a human being with a 22 or a 300 winchester magnum. . .it's just numbers. . .

i suggest the GSXR1000 if you are thinking about buying brand new 07 b/c its simply a better bike in many aspects. I am a little dissapointed in yamaha this year and the R1. they finally put a slipper clutch on the R1 this year which is great but big whoop because they are the last manufactuer to do so. the brakes are awesome but unless your valentino rossi thats no big deal. they have put the fly by wire design on the throttle this year which i am not completely sold on ( not sure i feel good about my throttle being completly electronic)
the new gsxr is a almost all new bike w/ far too many new features to list. the coolest is the new engine managment system that allows you to choose three diffrent settings to ride at. 100% , 85% , and 65% like having a 600, a 750, and a 1000 all on one bike

I couldnt agree with you more.

my husband has an R1. The gixxer 1000 is not my favourite, eventhough a lot of people would take a Zuk before a Yami. If thats me choosing between those 2, I would take the R1 without thinking.

Be carefull, its a handfull

I would go for an R1 instead of a GSXR1000

but to answer my question. Which bike is better. Yamaha or Suzuki?

Yeap, Yami fan here too. I let my husband buy me GSXR becuase he thought it would handle better than an R6

get a Two Brothers Shorty pipe!!

dieselgunz has one on a maroon and black gsxr750 and it looks sweet, havent seen him in a while though

Its the blue and white scheme. Not my favorite colors by any means but I couldnt pass this bike up..There is about 2grand in upgrades and mods and I am buying it for 7600. Its and 04 w/ 6k miles. I think its a damn good deal. It has Yoshi exhaust, K and N filter, PCIII w/ software, alarm, 10 miles on the tires, blue windshield, flush mounted blinkers and brake light, and custom license plate install w/ led lights. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head, but I think I am missing a couple more things. What do you guys think? Good deal?? I would like to think so. NADA has a stock 04 from 7500-8500 dollars. He is also giving me all the stock parts, truck ramps and straps.

Your question is too generic. Right now, the way you've worded it you're looking for an opinion and nothing more. If you want to compare certain years and for what purpose then you might have more useful answers. Since you say that you don't plan on racing I, personally (meaning my opinion) would choose the R1 for the street friendly comfort. The GSX-R1000 is better suited for the race track... again IMO.

Why not Honda or Kawasaki? Are you looking for a certain image that Yamaha and Suzuki have? Or are you looking for the performance of the bike? The Honda Superhawk would be a great bike for someone of your height and would offer you all of the fun power you could need.

(No, I'm not asking any of these questions to be a bitch, just trying to get a better understanding of why you've chosen these two brands only.)
