XBOX will kill...

This thing looks incredible.

Stats wise it blows away the competition and after seeing last nights commercial for the racing game it looks like XBox will easily defeat the Gamecube.

Cant wait to see the Madden commercial :D

Xbox will kick the poop out of the GameCub. The Xbox has better hardware (both faster and higher quality), more games, more functions besides just a gaming station (DVD player as well), and MOST of all backed by the largest monopoly in the world since the late AT&T! :-D

I rememebr the one question with xbox was "can they get contracts with good companies?"...well, they have.

I think I needs me one of these.

Comparing SONY, Nintendo, X-Box is like
Comparing CHEVY, FORD and PONTIAC

Similar feature and cost.
Each year one is on top until the other kicks it's ass.

It's a personal choice depending on which type games you want and personally my PS1 is just fine by me...

I won't touch any next gen system for at least 4-5 months.......AT LEAST. I saw the commercial for DOA3 and the character models and definition were virtually identical to the DC version........but the backgrounds definitely looked better and were more complex for sure. Don't judge the games by the fancy intro's or cut sequences, judge by the IN GAME graphics.......that shows the "true" power, versatility and programmability of a system. For months sony showed fancy CG demo's of games, but when ps2 came out everyone was like......WTF??? There are still DC games that match some of the best ps2 has to offer........and that's because the programming learning curve on the ps2 is so high. Companies are just now starting to figure out how to juice the ps2 for all it's worth. Remember, paper stats mean jack when it comes down to the finished product. The xbox may have all these incredible numbers, but they're the "theoretical" performance numbers based on what each component of the hardware can do. But when you put it all together bottlenecks show up that need to be programmed around.......ala the Ps2. Beleive me, the verdict is still out on which system will look better between the GC and xbox. The GC 'supposedly" is able to texture much better, which was the main strength of the dreamcast and the reason why some of the games for DC looked so incredible. So it comes down to a battle between raw horsepower (xbox) and finesse (Gamecube). You can't pick a winner yet, not by a long shot.

I think nintendo and sega are on their way out. Microsoft and Sony are so varied in terms of what goods they produce they can throw more money into development and do it cheaper than sega and nintendo.

sega might make good games but they are marketing retards.

nintendo aren't, but their games have a reputation for being 'kiddie' (i.e. donkey kong, zelda)

microsoft have the most to do. im afraid about the fact that bill gates might have a piece of his hardwar in every room in america. before you go to sleep after buying oe, open the thing up with a 12 guage ready just to make sure some alien parasite hasnt been put there :D

xbox is like the knew girl, sure she looks good, but let a couple people try her out before makeing your move

i dont particularly like him. he his evil incarnate

makes good applications, but id love to find a good alternative to his OS systems. just havent as yet

Nature boy.......the video game industry will crash and burn hard if nintendo and sega completely fold. Sony and Microsoft will ruin the industry, count on it. THese big companies can put inferior products on the market and bully their way to the top because they have so much funds from their other markets. They will stall the industry. I gurantee you that if Nintendo and sega both fold, sony and microsoft will just strike a deal, take their respective cuts of the market and put everything on cruise control. That's the way they work........for sony you just have to look at ps1 and ps2, both were technologically inferior to the competetion but sony's war chest was able to muscle around game companies. Microsoft does the same thing........XP is a bugged beyond beleif pile of horse shit, yet they can get away with it because who else is there???

I disagree. I've got both a PS1 and a PS2, and I think they were better than any of the competition at the time I bought them. Nintendo markets to kids, which means they don't have the titles I want. Sega's system was cool, but I didn't see titles I wanted from them either. I was a diehard Genesis fan, but didn't get into the Dreamcast.

Sega's given up on consoles altogether, and is now producing just games, which is okay by me. Nintendo's Game Cube debut in Japan, from what I've read, was pretty poorly received. Very low sales, from what I've heard.

I don't like Microsoft butting into another industry just because they can. It's a PC that you hook up to your TV. I think Sony will be around a long time to challenge Microsoft, don't know about Nintendo.

As far as XP being buggy, well, I've been running betas and RC's for several months, and now have the release version, and I think it's the most stable OS they've ever produced. All commercial software is buggy.

I'm not a Microsoft fan by any stretch, I'm just not sure I buy into your vision of the industry.

project, ps1 was better than the competition by default.....and even than it was "just barely" better. There were a handful of games on the n64 which couldn't be touched by the ps1, but you can't float a system on an amount of games you can almost count on one hand. 90% of ps1 games were crap though, but the ones that were good were VERY good. But how can you say the ps2 was better than the competition when it launched??? That was one of the most terrible launch lineups I've ever seen!!! Tekken tag was utter horse manure, and that was the game they hyped for over a year as the soul calibur killer. Soul Calibur STILL blows away any fighting game on the ps2. No, the ps2 was utter crap......even more so because sony hyped it as the "most innovative" piece of hardware the video game industry will ever see. And the reason you didn't see more 3rd party games for the DC is because Sony made them sign exclusivity agreements in exchange for ps2 development kits. Funny how all those companies recorded the biggest financial losses in their history for that year. That's because they weren't able to develop for both the DC and ps2......whether that was from an exclusivity agreement or simply the ps2 took up too many resources. Namco actually went so far as to set up a school where developers could learn how to program around the ps2's flawed memory architecture.

PS1 in terms of what it could do was far-out perfromed by the saturn

it had the titles, the advertising.....sega didnt get their titles out fast enough, didnt use the jap market as well as they could have as a source for titles, didtn advertise etc....they fucked up big time

Agreed, the launch lineup was crap, but by the time I was able to get a hold of a PS2, there were plenty of good games out there.

And exclusivity agreements aren't anything new. Both Nintendo and Sega had those agreements with certain vendors.

I'm sorry, but I can't think of a single game I wanted to play on the N64.

I have heard the programming complaints about the PS2, no argument there.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a Soul Calibre sequel in development for PS2? I know Soul Blade/Soul Edge was on the PS1. Personally, I think fighting games are pretty subjective. I've always been a big fan of the Street Fighter style over the 3D style.

Xbox sales won't be nearly as good as PS2s opening day was. Two reasons, Metal Gear Solid 2 comes out that day, and that will outsell Xbox units that day, and also gamecube will take away some of the market this sunday. Im glad I got my PS2

Assuming Sega and Nintendo start to go under (could happen, then again maybe it won't):

1) companies that make games usually make games licensed to multiple game platform vendors (EA sports, etc) so I don't necessarily think the quality of the games will stagnate.

2) Nintendo and Sega could get bought out by a bigger corperation, that's kind of the trend in every market in every industry. Consilidation. Whos to say a company like Disney owns Nintendo? Seems like a very few companies own like 99% of every other comany in the world.

If Sony and microsoft are the last two gaming platform vendors left, I still think the quality might be suitable for all of us. They'll keeping raising the bar and hopefully us the consumers will benefit.

I don't think they will keep "raising the bar"........both of those companies are well reputed to be "fiercely" against the concept of a competitive market:-)

project, last I read soul calibur was going to be an exclusive for the xbox.........but that could be false, who knows. Another interesting thing I read though is that Namco and Sega were teaming up to make a new piece of arcade hardware........this could "possibly" be the beginnings to a joint venture back into the console market for sega. They've always based their consoles off their arcade hardware R&D. Imagine a console with sega AND namco exclusives???

Fuck Xbox, PS2, and N. The Atari 2600 kicks ass! And the game Combat rules! And I thought Pong was the shit!:D

Beserker is the bomb.

And I'm glad you took my advice and shortened your sig, Dcup. I knew you'd see the light.
