I assume your referring to B. E. T. with your comment; "their own TV Channel." I would like inform you that Viacom purchased B. E. T. Viacom is a media conglomerate, predominately managed by white men.
He didn't say they "owned" their own TV channel, he said they "have" their own TV channel, which they clearly do, and companies buy other companies all the time. The president of BET is black, 99% of all of the programs are directed towards blacks with black actors, ect. (by the way I'm not against BET, just stating the obvious)
Black own scholarships are usually created to offer disadvantaged, but more importantly qualified blacks an opportunity to attend college. This is no different from scholarships that target German or Irish Americans.
Income is not a prerequisite to the vast majority of black scholarships, what is required is that the color of your skin be black. Also, qualification is not a prerequisite either. The fact of the matter is, If you are black you are eligible, and will likely be selected for countless sholarships, regardless of anything else. Please do not analogize to German or Irish American scholarships since they amount to about .00001% of scholarships and do not favor an immutable trait--Find me a "caucasion scholarship"--this will never exist because apparently there are no white people who are disadvantaged and public policy will never allow promoting the white race.
The article cited stated that the previous prom had been the first prom in 31 years to be integrated. Despite the Supreme Courts ruling to desegregate schools, many schools in the South had yet to be completely integrated. Obviously, this has been a consistent practice since. It's clear that the pretext is racist and separatist.
The school is CLEARLY integrated, it looked to be almost 50/50 which is just about as integrated as it gets. The privately run proms can discriminate against anyone for any reason, regardless of what the Supreme Court says. It would be nice if blacks and whites had all the same interests, cultural similarities..ect, but they don't. Although I disagree with the "formal" segregation, its really not that different than the "implicit" segregation you see at every high school in America--implicit segregation that is fostered by every race, not solely the evil white man.
