Got my scanner at work on. Area evacuated, moving back 1/2 to 3/4 mile. Expecting the entire refinary to go up. So far 10,000 gallons burning. Another few million to go.

NEWS just said another boat just exploaded in NJ but nothing on the scanner confirms it.

Can anyone in NJ confirm a propane barge exploading?

NEW YORK (AP) -- Fire broke out at an oil refinery on the edge of Staten Island, sending black smoke and flames hundreds of feet into the air over New York Harbor.

It wasn't immediately clear how the fire started. It was reported shortly after 10 a.m., according to a spokeswoman for the New York Fire Department.

No further information was immediately available.
