Wrist size

New member
I was wodering what everyones wrist size is and bicep size and if you think wrist size has anything to do with how big your arms can get.

I know that the length of the muscle belly limits the possbile size of the muscle. Do you have shorts biceps, with a long tendon attachment at the elbow? My wrists are just a bit over 7 inches, but my arms are 16 inches and lean. I have a long biceps however, only a very short tendon tying the biceps to the forearms.

Small wrists could mean a ectomorphic body which also has a rather light bone structure with short muscles and long tendons. But this is only a general statement.

Wrists: 7 3/4"
Arms: a hair over 19" cold

My wrist is 6.5 inches and my arm is in between 15-16 or so the last time I checked, but they're coming up fast! Interestingly enough my calves are bigger than my arms at 17 and a bit inches and they look big on my small frame and bones!

Big arms are a hinderance, can't rack the bar in a front squat!

I like small wrists, small bones and joints makes your muscles jut out like ballons :) Also good for power to weight ratio. I can't squat for shit but I can jump high. I think its also one reason why I had fast punching speed when I did amateur boxing. Low bone weight and lower inertia

Arm size is overated as a measurement - if I'm fat I could have an arm like 20 inches, and my wrist wouldn't change that much :D
Personally I think all measurements should be divided by your current bodyfat percentage to arrive at a ratio figure.

20 inch arm divided by 20% BF = 1
20 inch arm divided by 10% BF = 2 HUGE! :)

Wrists are 6 3/4 and my arms are just about 17" cold-flexed.

smallest wrist

I think I have got the smallest wrist just a little above 6 inches but biceps are ok at 16.5 inches flexed. Forearms are above 13 inches. I really wish to have a bigger wrist cause they look like ladies hands. Any suggestions guys. Recently I have worked alot of my forearms but wrist still the same size.

Don't speak Dutch, but,

7 inch wrists, 18 inch arms. 15 1/2 inch forearms. I am sure that bigger wrists mean bigger bone structure, but you can't do any more about wrist size than you can foot size, so don't get real wrapped up in it.

I hear ya bro. I have been cursed with very small hands. My ring size is smaller than my wifes.

Not a big deal really, but it's annoying going through life with "female-ish" hands.

One good thing though: having smaller hands makes your arms look bigger. My arms are barely 17" cold, but people comment on how big "they look".

Yeah JOKER47, I agree with you that smaller hands and wrist do make my arms look much bigger than it would on others.:p

Interesting thread! But i do not believe wrist or ankle size has anythign to do with mass or strength. Especially strength. Becuase its your muscle and tendons that must be strong. YOu can make little wrists strong as hell. Or in the case of benching you can wrap the hell out of them. I do. But here is my stats:

wrists 7 3/4
forearms 15 1/2
biceps 19 cold,

"hey thnx ZZuluZ. you speak dutch too?"

I do, but not that well anymore. I'm from Belgium.

Jay, wrist size IS important. Just like ankle size. It's what determines your genetic potential. Nobody with 6 inch wrists is going to deadlift 700. NOBODY. Your wrists are very big, another reason why you're very strong.

Zzulu,

Dude, I respect you, but I think you are a bit off on this one. Sure it is nice to have big joints, look at Garry Frank. That being said, though, take a look at pics of Lamar Gant.

Lamar weighed a whopping 132 lbs and was the greatest deadlifter in history, along with being one of the greatest powerlifters in history, and I will kiss you on the taint if his wrists were any bigger than about 6 inches.

I have 7 inch wrists, and have done board work with over 600 lbs on the bench. I don't have a real big bone structure, but I have made myself as thick as possible in an effort to increase my bench. Being big and sturdy built is nice, but it ain't necessary.

For his size. You realize that I'm talking about maximal, not relative strength do you?

Tell you what. You give me the top 20 deadlifters in the world and tell me how many of them have 6 inch wrists. My guess is zero, but I may be wrong.

7 inch wrists is pretty big....I'm not surprised.

I'm fairly certain of what I'm saying here. I did not pull this out of thin air.

Zzulu,

I have no doubt you are not pulling this out of thin air. I know you are smart and as I said before I respect you.

Are you simply saying that the guys who have posted the top 20 by bar weight deadlifts of all time would have bigger than 6 inch wrists? If that is your point, then I missed it, and could not agree with you more.

If you are going just by bar weight, and ignore coefficient, formulas, and the like, then your top lifts are always going to be made by the biggest guys out there. 2 noted exceptions to this rule are Ed Coan, and George Halbert who are top ten all time with 242 and 220 bodyweights.

With those two exceptions the biggest numbers have alsways been put up by guys who weigh from 275 to 400 lbs bodyweight, and bigger people will have big wrists, ankles, knees, hands, feet, everything.

My point is that small boned people can be very very strong. They cannot probably post one of the 10 or 20 highest deadlifts or benches of all time, though, because small boned people are never going to be heavyweights.

Seems we're on the same wavelength.

People with small wrists can be VERY strong, but relatively. There are 110 pound women that snatch 250 pounds....

You're right; the biggest people always have the greatest maximal strength.

Thanks for your compliments.
