Wow.. Squat Video..

Those weren't full squats at all. They weren't 1/4 squats either, but he stopped above parallel even, with a very narrow stance.

It shows good conditioning, I wouldn't say impressive though.

Did we watch the same video? Most all of his squats were below parallel. With his heels near touching that is pretty tough.

He was wearing gloves though...ugh..

I paused it at the bottom of the reps and didn't see one that was below parallel.

maybe I am a squat natzi, but I wouldn't say they were below parallel.

looks to me like his depth is fine. Sure, he could get a deeper, but his flexability is @ the limit, you can see his weight shift forward and hips moving forward. A fine depth for this guy. If he were to open up his stance more, he would have no problems getting a little more depth.

Great quad conditioning for sure, but to think that because he didn't reach the top on every rep some how takes away from the 8 min of work he just did is idiotic. If anything coming all the way up will only make it easier.

Please explain how a full range of motion squat would make it easier.

I would also love to hear an explanation as to why my opinion is idiotic.

A full ROM squat allows for pressure to be released on the muscle, this allows for the blood to flow better through the muscle. Delivering more nutrients, and removing toxins. Maintaining constant tension restricts this process. Give it a try, it's night and day. You practically answered your own question, by saying "he never returned to the starting position of the squat except to rest."

Obviously this isn't powerlifting technique, but their is more than one way to skin a cat. He certainly is doing work here, this is what I think is idiotic
to me there was not one complete rep there.

Not one.

Great conditioning.

If you're doing high reps like that, not locking out and not stopping at the top is the way to do it - that last 5% is so easy it makes no difference.

Squat depth was good too.

Jesse and Sarge WERE/ARE insane. I don't know anyone who can compare to THEM.

Here's some impressive squatting don't think anyone can argue with the depth on these.

Just a thought...but not long before this video I competed in a squat against Jesse Marunde with 660 lbs. Single Ply gear and knee wraps and we both wore Chucks for shoes, every rep several inches below parallel. Jesse got 1 (OR 0) and I got 8. The winner of the contest got 16!

Reps do NOT convert to max weight very well.

That's for sure, reps are a matter of conditioning, max one rep is pure strength.

The thing is...I can't do what he did in the video...yet he couldn't do reps with 660 either. I did 8 reps, others did 16...he either got 0 or 1 rep with 660.

But when it came to the conditioning events in Strongman...he was the guy running around the arena after the event when most of us were hanging around the trash can!

Some people are just built for endurance (not me, lol). Jesse was definitely one of those guys. Seemed like he had endless energy. Also at least for me reps have never helped me up my weights much.

Korin showed me an amazing squat video ages ago, it was widowmaker DC 20 rep set, some Dr guy who was like 50+ years old but cant remember the weight, do you know which one I mean korin?

Yeah I remember it, but after watching it a couple more times, I think he was using fake plates. Dr ken lestner.

I've met Dr Ken in an elevator in Boston. That guy is TINY. Amazing endurance/power he had in his day(s).

What!!!???? bro, those are considered full squats. If you tried that you would fold in half and then die.

You have to remember that everyone on this thread has 30" ripped thighs and competitively squat 900-1,000 lbs on a regular basis with 25 years experience in the field of exercise. So they know everything.

i respect the muscular endurance and agree they are not full depth. However, I don't think that is what he was trying to accomplish. The 655 was a real squat. I know I couldn't do either.

so after watching these videos and reading comments i believe im not going deep enough. but my problem is where i stop "feels" right as far as my joints tell me. i have a slightly wider then shoulder width stance and toes pointed out. is there a stance that makes deep easier or should i just drop weight and relearn?
