Would you work a 13 hour shift?

AAP

I just posted this and it disappeared.

My company is hiring 2 additional admin assistants for me. So I have 2 extra employees to supervise and hear whine.

The shift(s) to choose from are either:

Sun Mon Tue 13 hours
Wed 6 hours

or

Wed 6 hours
Thu Fri Sat 13 hours.

Why on earth someone would work crazy hours and long days like that is beyond me. The pay is not all that good, just 19 an hour. I think this is an indication of how bad the economy has gotten now.

What the hell do you do for a living?

I agree with your economy statement. We're in a recession and no one wants to say it.

My friend once worked 36 hours straight, hes a maniac. He said he was so tired he could not sleep.

most hours in a week for me is 77 in six days

three 13 1/3 hour days and then off 4 days in a row sounds worth it to me.

but, then again, i work for the government, so my expectations are always low.

I know admin assist. up here that would love to make 19/hr....are they just secretary's with a fancy title?

I'd hit that first shift...what's another couple hours a day....PLus you only work 4 days, and 3 of them you get OT.

BTW....with tht pay and shift I figure it is about 56k/year...not bad for a secretary...hell some engineers here don't make that.

13 hours a day is an easy day here bro, but 19 an hour, well, I can't help you.

That's actually a good deal for an admin assistant: work 3.5 days, gt 3.5 days off. It averages out to like $45K a year, which, is decent for an AA.

I don't think it speaks to the economy at all.

I worked in a steel mill as a student and did 12 hour days in 120-130 degree temperatures. Got burnt on numerous occassions, had a couple of infections from wires that cut me and threw up more times then i could remember. From that summer on, any job i get now is easy as PIE!

There are probably about 25 million admins in the U.S. that would work 15 hour days for $19 an hour.

How is it an indication of how bad the economy is when admins are making $45,000?

really!! 19 bucks an hour to fetch coffee??? AAP must not live anywhere near new orleans. he'd have NO problem finding peeps to do this.

In all honesty 13 hour days are not that bad....I currently work 12 1/2 hour shifts, many of which turn into 16 hour shifts after all the paperwork is completed. My schedule is the same....I SHOULD only have to work 15 days a month. I also work graveyard...so all of my days are free. Unfortunately that usually turns out to be closer to 25.

I forgot to add (but had it in the thread that disappeared) that we have had over 200 resumes since it was listed in last Sunday's papers.

Those are crazy hours and days. I would consider it if it were something like Mon Tue Wed, but EVERY weekend is going to be overlapped.

I work 1-2 days per week (varies highly) that are 12-16 hour days - don't get paid extra for the extra time it's just the nature of the job and the travel involved. Come to think of it - I don't get 4 days off in a row either.

Hmmmmmm

Yeah, I would work those crazy hours.

I have a friend that's a bodyguard and he's on 12 off 12, 7 days a week. It's no wonder why no one every sees him.

now AAP - if they are your assts- are you working all those hours- or just delegating responsibility?

No, my schedule will not change. These two admins are going to be doing tasks like tracking/updating/regestering my physicians data and license. Processing medical insurance claims and payments (my co. pays our doctors malpractice insurance fees), and arranging travel intineries for my doctors.

I currently have under my supervision:

1 secretary (you didn't think *I* answered phones did you?) I have no idea what she makes, she was here long before I came on board and just assumed duties under my direction.

1 Admin Asst - After her next performance evaluation, she should be up to about $23 hour. She is currently just working Mon-Fri 9-5. She will not change her hours, but instead become the Lead Admin.

2 CSR's (telemarketers) they get $15 per hour. And these two guys work like DOGS for me. The company provides a bonus of $1K for ever contract I get due to their efforts and research. In addition to that bonus, I also give them $1K out of my commission check for every contract they bring me.

I also take my team out to lunch at Houstons/Blue Moon/Bennigans/Gulf Oyster/etc.. every other week on my expense account.

Man your the coolest gay dude I know!:D

what has the world come to when white collar labor that requires a certificate from community college only pays $19 an hour?

The median household (thats with either 1 or 2 people working) income in america is $40k a year. 50% of all american households earn less than that.

Wtf is up with you yuppies (anal & matt). only 10% of americans make over $80k a year, only 5% make over 115k a year. You guys are sooooo disconnected from a workingmans reality. Not that thats a bad thing.

I did it on many occasions. Of course it's not something I like to do but after a while you get use to that.

I'm not disconnected. I support many people.

Shit, when I was 18 I had 2 full time jobs to buy my guitar gear, that was hell. I barely had time to do anything, just enough time to go cash in my paychecks and put another toy on layaway. I slept 3 hours a day most days other than of course on days off.

Other than that, I've done probably no more than 15 hours in a single job, that I can remember.

How much of that time spent working can also be spent naked? That is a huge factor for my answer.

at one point for two months I worked a 13 hour day for 6 days a week at 10 bucks and hour tunning and selling skis all day...

I got off at 10 pm at night, at which point I would pick up dinner and drive 30 mins south to go see my ex gf at her college, stay at her place till 3 am and drive 45 mins to my house. (dorms did not allow weeknight guests past 3am) Then I would wake up at 7am to lift and do it all over again.

that was an exercise on mental tuffness
