Would you rather be strong as hell and look average or.........

Imnotdutch

butler monkey
would you rather look great and be weak??

Somebody commented at the gym today that I dont look like I can lift as much as I can. Admittedly i dont look in great shape......I lift purely for the strength.

So would you rather:

1) look great and be average in strength
2) Be strong as an ox but close to average build?

I'm an anomaly...I'm straight, have a fantastic sense of style, look like I can lift a mac truck, have great hair and I can even cook.

LOL!!!

I also am getting my nuts bronzed.

Im pretty big, but I am not that strong, its a genetic thing, for me I want to be an amature body builder, so I guess I would rather be big than strong

I'd choose #1

There are already too many fat people in the world.

BWAHAHAHAH i didn't know gyno=pretty big

If I looked as though I could bench 600 lbs. and could actually only lift 400, that would be fine with me.

as a competitive powerlifter, i'd take strength over looks. it is possible to be strong as hell and look awesome also

Look great and be average in strength.

Right now I life far less then most people my size.. doesn't bother me at all though.

There is no reason you can't be strong as hell and look good. It isn't like you have to make a choice. Sure... I could throw on an extra 40 pounds of muscle and fat and be stronger... but I am stronger than 99% of most guys in the gym already... so who cares... Also... every winter I add 20-25 pounds of winter insulation so I get to have my "hey look at me!" work-outs too.

how much does everyone bench?

my flat barbell one rep max is like 245.

strength

i still get neurotic when people call me big an im not.....maybe i should cut some more

I'd take the 20 in. arms, cut and veiny. I've got the great strength, will never have great size. So I'd like to know what that's like.

i'm in lestat's boat. i bench about 250, but my physique would lead you to believe otherwise. i'm genetically weak in everything except deadlifting. doesn't bother me much though. sure it would be nice to put up decent weight, but i'll take "aesthetically pleasing" over "strong as shit" any day of the week because i'm one vain bastard.

I'll have plenty of time to be pretty after I retire from powerlifting.

Genetically weak in almost everything? What makes you think that you are 'genetically' weak?

I can't lift a tv. (A small one, at that) But my frown could get any moron to lift it for me. So I say good looks.

Im a sleeper. Freinds come over bragging about working out and their lifts-"yeah I can bench at least 300", lay down on my bench under 250 and get smashed then I show them how weak they really are.

Why? Are you a ditch digger or something? I would have synthol done if it didn't cost so much. Weights are heavy.

Assuming you are serious.........

Why would you want fake muscle? I never did understand this concept.

I guess this could turn into the old argument of performance against image.

Easy..Look great and average strength..Then just get on a program and build up.

Answers like this show a complete lack of understanding of the obvious intention of the thread.

Do you not think genetics has very much to do with strength?

Genetics determines your own personal concoction of fast twitch and slow twitch muscle fibers.
-not changeable. directly related to strength

Genetics determines the number of muscle fibers in your body.
-not changeable. directly related to strength(more fibers, thicker muscle, more strength)

Genetics determines how much testosterone your body produces.
-changeable via steroids. indirectly related to strength

Genetics determines the length of your muscles in relation to its tendons, which directly limits the extent of a muscle's possible thickness.
-not changeable. directly related to strength

Genetics also determines your bone structure.
-not changeable. not so much related to strength, but a bigger frame is more likely to carry more muscle

Genetics plays a huge role in strength. You don't see a lot of 6'8" guys in powerlifting as the shorter guys have a greater advantage due to leverage. That is genetics.

I have gotten a lot stronger compared to my non-trained self. But I'm never going to be that guy benching 400lbs and squatting 600 without steroids.

Synthol = MCT oil + BA.

Buttplug, dream on.

To me, both matter. Currently, strength probably a little more. In the long run, I would choose size.

sounds like a lot of excuses

and for the record, i believe anybody can bench 4 and squat 6 with some training and proper nutrition

Of course genetics affects strength........I am just wondering why genetics were being blamed. There are other reasons for being weak. Just seems like everybody wants to blame their genetics nowadays.

Genetics is the perfect excuse........it isnt your fault its your parents :) And to top it all there is nothing that you can do to change them.

I guess I am playing about the synthol. I guess part of being large is the satisfaction of knowing you did the work to get that big. But I would still say size over strength. Being extraordinarily strong is not that important these days as it was in the past.

Sounds like a good reason to go for size...........:)

Actually, I wouldn't mind going the synthol route if I thought it looked like real muscle. I am just not so sure.

This is only speculation, but once you stop the synthol wouldn't your muscles shrink back? Now since the skin had stretched, wouldn't it sag?

One thing I don't wanna do is keep taking something forever, so if I were to use synthol it would be only temporary. Most people that used it say that the effects go away after 4weeks of use.

Greg Valentino was a guest on some show on NBC, and if you looked at his muscles they had shrunk greatly and sagging. Unless he flexed, there was no defenition at all. Stretchy skin is a big deal.

IMO the only real place for synthol is possibly to use it in very low dosages to bring up lagging bodyparts just a tad bit more. Let's say your left arm is slightly smaller than the right, then you can use it slightly in there to stretch the muscle fascia and hope that it would promote growth in the future, since it had once already been big. Make sence?

JMHO on the matter. :)

Really, how you got big doesn't matter much to the outside eye. Perhaps it is important for self satisfaction, but that is only a temporary feeling. If I could take a pill and have my ideal body, I would. Not saying I would stop going to the gym, cause the gym is the best high I ever get.
