I wouldn't have let her move in at all. Pull her aside, and tell her that those rules were not optional...she can either abide by them or start looking through the paper for apartment listings. If she still doesn't respect you, be right to the point: tell her it just isn't working out and that she needs to be out by (x) date. I'd say two weeks is plenty of time to find a place to rent.

Bullshit you can't throw her out. If she doesn't respect the house rules, not only can he do it...he must do it. Continuously dealing with it will eventually lead to extreme tension in the house, and probably some growing feelings of resentment towards his wife. Better to dump the baggage before any of that happens.

Cluttering cabinets goes something like this....I put exactly what I need and use in them, I don't buy crap at walmart and target that looks colorful or cool I might use one day. Seriously speaking; my mother in law has been staying with us for a week since my wife had a kidney stone procedure done, and it's great! Total respect both ways, and no problems. And she helps out a lot. She cooks well too! Yes, she could stay as long as she wants....

The biggest benefit that I ever had was my MIL stayed with us after my second child was born. The biggest problem that I ever had was that she stayed 3 years past her welcome and I moved three states away to get away from her.
