I work with lawyers everyday and it just so happed one of them has litigated a case involving confidentiality being breached by a physician. He informed me it was difficult to prosecute such a case because the doctor has the right to confer with any of his colleges to better his understanding of the situations he encounters. Like animal B said he does not have the right to share information with family, friends, secretaries etc. But it sounds like(from your story) that your mom overheard nurses talking about it, right. Now that's where the real problem is! Considering nurses see you files the DR may not have told them of AS use. But the nurses nor DR's can't just blurt out private shit in the hallways or when ANY OTHER PERSON CAN HEAR THAT HAS NO REASON TO! That's why you usually see signs in elevators(meaning that is a public place) saying something to the effect of, "We the staff don't like to discuss matters pertaining to patients in places as such". You should definitely file a complaint at the hospital they should have some sort of compliance officer on hand or a human resources representative. This kind of shit needs to stop! Check it out and keep us posted. I'm sure when it comes down to it we will all have to face a Dr for whatever reason and tell him we have either used AS or are on them!

I feel for you bro! When I went to the doctor to get my script for accutane. The DR kept asking if I was on anabolics...I said no way are you crazy, he then kept aking how I got so big and kept insisting I was on steriods! I was getting pissed but nicely kept saying NO... He then said it again and I told him I'm big because I work out train hard and eat right...He got pissed and I said whatever I do on my time is my business and just smiled, now can I get my script. He got really pised and i just ignored his ass!

Who knows what would of happened if I ever admitted my use to that prick. So basically don't tell them shit!

This is why I have always advised not to discuss this shit with doctors. It gets worse. When the insurance claim is filed, this information will be part of the record. All insurance companies belong to the Medical Information Bureau....they share this information with other companies when you apply for health ins., life insurance, disability insurance and so on. It follows you around like a DUI. I would raise hell, and demand that any reference be deleted from the chart, if it ain't too late.

I'd never tell my doc either! There's just too many possible negatives that go along with it ie insurance, family knowing, etc.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune and just hearing it pisses me off bigtime, I can't imagine how you feel

If you didn't like a few people knowing about your as uses then how many people will know once you file a complaint, talk to a lawyer, then go to a packed court room?!?!?
