Elite members, this is an experience I've had recently which I feel you can all benefit from hearing about. Whether you take the time to read it is completely up to you, however, I ask that you trust a fellow bro and do consider what I'm about to tell you. If I can help just one of you to avoid what I've just went through then it will have been worth it.

About one week after Christmas, I developed an upper respiratory infection that would not respond to anti-biotics. It was getting serious because I started having trouble breathing. I went through 6 courses of 5 different anti-biotics. As a last resort, one of my doc's prescribed something called Levaquin. This is a "last-course" med used to treat certain bacterial infections that are not responding to anything else. It is in the family quinolones which includes the drug Cipro. When I started the medicine, I was having severe psychological stress. By that I mean I just started feeling severly depressed, having halucinations and tremendous anxiety. I also began to experience pain in my achilles tendons, tendons in my elbows ( the same tendons I just had 3 months of Prolotherapy work done on ) and also my knees and shoulders. But I was sick as a dog so these things to me seemed like they were just par for the course. But after 13 days on the drug, my doctor was apparently too concerned about my resting hr which was at 120 bpm and took me off of the drug. He was unfortunately not keeping me abreast of my rapid heart rate. I knew it was rapid but I had no reason to check it because he didn't say to look for or expect it, so I never did. He just kept it to himself and finally decided it was too risky so stopped it. It was apparently that high the entire time I was on the drug. I know, I'm stupid for not checking it, but believe me when you're that sick, you tend to rely more on other people to do that sort of thing for you. It's now 3 days since I've taken my last dose of the med and I am a mess. My resting hr is still >100, my legs are a mess as I have pain in damn near all of my joints and tendons. I have such severe psychological stress that I can't stop my mind from becomming fixated on extremely negative things. I did some research on the med during the past few days and it turns out that there are entire web sites devoted to the issue of this medication being a danger to humans. There are literally thousands of people complaining of the exact things I am complaining about. Many of these people have died as a result. I personally emailed a woman to check on the status of her 18 yr old son who had taken the drug and had a bad reaction to it and she wrote me back and told me he had died. I nearly fell off my chair. I also saw many other posts on a forum of people, mostly wives, who lost their loved ones as a result of this drug. Unfortunately, many people are saying that a lot of these effects are permanent. I also read some recently published technical papers that it changes the structure of the fibers in tendons and can cause spontaneous tendon rupture with little or no strain and at any time after taking the drug. Doctors are saying it's all in people's heads, these drugs just don't do that. That's of course BS. There are currently law suits being established that may, or may not work to get this stuff off the market. In the mean time, if you can possibly remember, here is the list of the drugs. The one that I had was Leviquin.

ofloxacin(Floxin®), levofloxacin(Levaquin®, Tavanic®), ciprofloxacin(Cipro®, Baycip®, Cetraxal®, Ciflox®, Cifran®, Ciplox®, Cyprobay®, Quintor®), norfloxacin(Noroxin®, Amicrobin®, Anquin®, Baccidal®, Barazan®, Biofloxin®, Floxenor®, Fulgram®, Janacin®, Lexinor®, Norofin®, Norxacin®, Orixacin®, Oroflox®, Urinox®, Zoroxin®), enoxacin(Penetrex®), lomefloxacin(Maxaquin®), grepafloxacin(Raxar®), trovafloxacin(Trovan®), sparfloxacin(Zagam®), temafloxacin(Omniflox®), moxifloxacin(Avelox®), gatifloxacin(Tequin®), gemifloxacin

And here is a web site that can provide useful information if you are interested.

What I'm going to do to help myself is to take massive amounts of supplements, especially the minerals magnesium, calcium and potassium as it has been speculated that this medicine strips these out of your body. I will also go on HGH. The reason for the HGH is that I thought it might help to regerate my tendon tissues.

As I said, if this helps just one of you, it will have been worth posting it. I hope it does help someone.

Thanks for the heads up...

I wish you good luck. Be carfull with the "massive" doses of supplements, just make sure you know what your doing.

I believe very strongly in mind healing the body. It would seem to me that you are not yet in any position for "damage" assesment. Take some time to center yourself, perhaps learn some meditation techniques and exercises.

That's damn shitty luck, my friend. You sure don't complain much.....we've talked several times lately and you never mentioned it. Hey, that's what friends are for.
I posted back in the early winter, that I had taken a GH break and got sick immediately. It took 2 weeks to get over it. Never again! GH is proven to strength and enhance the immune system, esp. in those of us over 40. Makes a guy wonder if there is some kind of rebound when a regular GH user goes off. Same thing happened to Krusher this winter.
Not everyone has the reaction to this antibiotic, though....right? I have used cipro several times with no problem. In fact, I keep some on hand cause it kicks the shit out of injection site infections. Makes me want to throw the bottle out after reading your story.

I wish you all the best in your recovery and I'm sure you'll pull through quickly. I had a similar experience with a medication, the side effects were physically and psychologically driving me insane. The doctor insisted that this was a normal dose and shouldn't have effected me in that way. The friggin pharmaceutical companies should use the doctors as their guinea pigs, not us! Good luck, I'm sure you'll be hittin it hard in the gym soon.

Damn, bro. Sorry to hear that. I would also consider low doses of anavar and deca with the gh.

I wish you only the best in your recovery bro, and I would like to thank you for taking the time to post your experience for all to read... I wish only the best for you.

YUM

Damn, just goes to show that you have to be your own doctor and not put blind faith in someone just because he has a medical liscense. Thanks for the info and I really, really am pulling for you.

Just thinking, as far as supplements go, would Glucosamine/Chondroitin help your tendons or is that just for cartilage?

Just tryin' to help,

JC

That sounds EXACTLY what I went through!!! I had a real bad
respiratory infection and was treated with Levaquin. It is supposed to be given for a course of no more then 7 days at
one pill a day. After the 2nd day, I started developing a REAL bad
rash on my face. I never thought it had anything to do with the
meds. Then, I started to develop SEVERE pain in ALL my joints,
but ESPECIALLY the shoulders. I tried doing a few pushups, and
almost cried from the pain. I also developed a nasty case of
insomnia which (at about 3:00am) led me to the exact same
discovery you made. I started thinking that all this shit had something to do with the med and after some web surfing, I
found probably the same websites you did. I was reading some
horror stories about people's tendons just rupturing and one
women took it 1 time, and went into a psychotic state. She also
lost her memory!!! This is a DANGEROUS drug! It works on
the central nervous system. That's why it effects so many people
in so many different ways. I was also VERY depressed on it.
When I told my doctor, he asked if I would like a shot in my shoulders for the tendonitis!! You believe that shit? He said he
never heard of anybody having problems with Levequin.

Now I switched to another doctor. Just had another upper
respiratory infecton about a month ago, and this PRICK starts
writting me out a script for Levaquin! I was like 'Are you fucking
kidding me?" He then asked if I was alergic too it. I said you
can keep you Levaquin. I also told him that this is a last resort
drug that should only be given out when all others fail. He just
looked at me with a blank look and then wrote me a script for
Zithromax. Please, DO NOT EVER TAKE LEVAQUIN OR CIPRO!!
I just feel bad for all those postal workers who were put on
a course of Cipro for 60 days to prevent them from getting
Anthrax!! 60 DAYS!!! I bet they are probably now in the worst
health immagineable.

p.s. 40butpumpin- You will be fine I'm sure. Just take things slow.
This shit lasts a LONG time in your system. Your joints will start
to feel better in 1 to 3 months time though. Good luck to you!!
