World's Strongest Man

Atomic Punk

New member
Who is your favorite competitor of all time? I think that Jon Pall Sigmarsson was the only guy to win it 5 times, and his fellow countryman Magnus Ver Magnusson has won it 4 times. Of course Kaz has won it 3 times, and finished second twice. The new guy(Pudzonovsky) is pretty tough too.

Pudzy is from Poland, definately will be breaking WSM records, the new face of WSM.

Many feel that way bro. I kind of feel bad for Zadrunus Savickus, who has placed second to him the last 2 years. Without Marius there, he would have dominated. Fucker has like a 56 inch chest or something.

I like my fellow Cdn Hugo Girard, as we has a great personality for the camera at these events as well as being as strong motherfucker!

your right...look how good he did at the arnold..that guy is bad...i like svend karlsen alot too..he is probably one of my favorites

This past years competition was the first time in awhile that there weren't so much as ONE SINGLE competitor from the USA in the Finals, which kinda sucked. Johnny Perry was on his way before he died in my opinion. There is a guy from the USA though who is only 23 years old, who competed this past year, and just missed qualifying for the Finals. I can't remember his name, but his old man used to play O-Line for the Packers, and was with them when they won the first 2 Super Bowls. He has TONS of potential.

My favorite of all time though is either Bill Kazmier, or that big fat fucker from Northern Ireland Glenn Ross. He has never done much as far as winning, but MAN can that dude DEADLIFT & Squat. He pulled 875 on Deads with EASE. He always wins those 2 events, but is so fat, that he can't hang in any events requiring any type of endurence. I love the guy though. A big fat beer-guzzler from Ireland, who is strong as a house.

Pudz has been banned from WSM and IFSA, and from what I understand is done competing on that circuit.

Hopefully I'll be there someday.

Since WHEN was Marius banned bro? And for what reason? He just won WSM this past year, and competed at the Arnold as well. I think you're wrong about this, with all due respect.

I hope you get there too btw.

Zadrunas is def my fav. Im also of Lithuanian lineage, and i love seeing a guy that looks exactly like me and my father (in the face only) dominate. Marius is def a cut above the rest though, but Zadrunas did win the Strongman at the Arnold Classic.

marius is savickus's training partner,so I doubt without marius there he would be either

Jesse Marunde is the young American who I mentioned, who has tons of potential. He is only 23, and hasn't even come close to achieving what he could, if he wants it bad enough. Unless someone else comes along, he is Americas best hope of taking the WSM if the future in my opinion.

Poor guy was the strongest guy there those two or three years, but was so overweight that he couldn't get any points on the endurance or speed events...

aww...he wants to do contests other than with the ifsa so they cry and threaten to kick him out or do so...i dunno..but if thats the case..its just a bunch of unneeded drama

The IFBB would ban anyone who did a WABBA show.

odd hauden (sp) represented usa a few years ago. made it to the qualifying rounds at 52 years old. that impresses the hell out of me. he beat out dozens of 20 and 30 somethings just to get to the qualifier and then finished ahead of some more of them.

Odd also beat me in Boston in February.

Dial Tone: Thanks for the link...I was pretty sure that this was old news and everyone knew about this. I think this took place early last Fall as well.

That's very interesting about Mariusz. I think the dilema IFSA is facing may be bigger than they know. But probably not. If they think that Mariusz is not a huge draw for them they need to take a closer look at the Polish demographic in Chicago, Detroit, Phil, NYC. There are 7 million of them in the US. The Polish support Mariusz here in the US like they did Golota and Golota couldn't fight. Mariusz's supporters will stop everything to watch him. He also changed the way a strong man has to look in order to win and that's worth gold to MetRX.

I think that you are wrong...

Most people who watch the TV show (and remember that it is JUST a TV show) have no clue what year that they are watching when it is on TV and they will have no clue that Marius was banned. He is a freaky athlete...simply amazing...but the IFSA is the ONLY show in town. I have THE contract right here in front of me and it SUCKS. They can have me by the balls if they want to...but they are the ONLY show in town. I can either play by their rules...or not play at all.

I'll play by their rules.

Pudz is a ripped, strong mofo. But my favorite was Magnus Ver Magnussin.

I agree 100% Magnus was the man. but if you go to Marius Pudz(SP) website and catch some pics its hard to argue. He looks like a BB and clearly dominates the WSM.
In my opinion going to the gym is easy, getting bigger is easy, but having boatloads of strength and being shreaded thats hard!!

Most people who watch the TV show...have no clue what year that they are watching when it is on TV...

Most people who watch THAT TV show aren't paying attention to the year. But Mariusz brings several million potential viewers who never watched the show simply because he's Polish. The Polish have gotten their ass kicked for a 1000 years and this guy is the other side of the coin. He's a national hero from a country that has 7 million people in THIS country most of whom had never heard of the WSM contest before he won.
He's like Yao Ming or Hideki Matsui, and there is too much money to be made to be excluding Mariusz. I am not saying they won't do it. The owner of Chicago Bulls let the team break up after 6 titles because the GM didn't like the coach. The Bulls were generating over a billon dollars a year in revenue at the time. Which I think shows that smart men in sports can make very stupid financial decisions because their egos get in the way. It can happen and will happen again.

So they HAVE, or are considering, banning Marius? Which is it? I havn't quite gotten that straight.

To the best of my knowledge...he will no longer compete in the WSM again.

Magnus was the man...hands down. He might not have been able to compete with guys these days...but relative to his time...no one compares.

he should get his ass competing and go pro BB,he certainly has the body for it

I was pretty sure that I read somwhere that he didn't like bodybuilding, didn't find it very appealing, and never found it to be interesting much either. He liked much more competitive and athletic sports.

I beleive that he was also a good boxer as well.

To find out the year of WSM when watching look at the signs in the background. For some reason ESPN hardly ever posts year and when giving awards metrx doesn't say. Buy all means marious is ripped and a good athelete, a great genetic specimen. Magnus Ver had strength talent and personality. He was a good bro.

hey, i never found out what happened to Johnny Perry.I heard he had past away , but never anything else.He was probably one of the best in my opinion. Looked like a bull, that one.

What else is there? The man is dead!

I would like to pay respect the man for his efforts. He was a great opponent. I feel it is important to know the whole story. What happened to this man that ended his career in his prime.
P.S. you should pay a little respect to dead, PUNK! Were all headed that way.

So you've never wanted to know the cause of someone's death before? Chill the f*ck out. He's got a right to ask. If you don't want to answer just don't.

Actually, I was joking. YOU chill the fuck out.

I read an article that was posted recently on wrestlers deaths. Johny was listed in there... they said cocaine destroyed his heart.
I must be old.. Does anyone remember that guy "MegaMan" from Australia. He did the competition one year then was gone. He was like 6'10" tall. I am wondering if that was Nathan Jones. If you look at his bio the time matches up. He went to jail for armed robbery for a while too. Again the time matches up. Big f'n dude either way!

MegaMan IS Nathan Jones from the WSM and the one who wrestles...

Also...he is the one who has his arm broken by Samuellson.

Anyone have a link for a good website that profiles all these strong men? I'd love to see a page that had pics, stats, and bios for all of the dudes mentioned in this thread.

Maybe I'm wet-behind-the-ears here bro, but I never knew you were on the circuit in these competitions. Good for you! I have a question: How do you stack up against Phil Phister, Mark Phillipi, Jesse Marunde, and Brian Schonfeld? Is your ultimate goal to be in, and win, the WSM? Thanks for answering in advance.

I can't beat any of those guys...yet. I will someday and hope to be breathing down their neck this next year.

Schoonie is taking this year off to continue to compete in powerlifting and get stronger for Strongman and for next year.

I competed agains Phil in Boston with a torn hamstring and I got 2nd to him on a couple of events (farmers and Conan's Wheel I believe). I've never competed against the other guys (recently started competing as a Pro on the circuit) but it is safe to say that they are better than I am at this sport right now.

My goal is to make it to the Worlds...which means I have to place top 5 at the US Pro Nationals. I hope to make it to the Pro Nationals this year and make the finals (top 12). That would be awesome for my first year as a Pro.
