Workout Split Question

Ok..we have a 3 day slit and a 4 day split mainly that most people use...
They all seem to be based on the weekdays. Why do most programs insist on having 2 days off on the weekend?

Why not do a 4/5 day split...where...

Start over...Why two days off in regular programs?
 
Weekends of is not a rule, it's just convenient for many people. To gain size and strength, you only need to lift 3 or 4 days per week. Many lifters prefer to have the weekends off, but it's hardly a requirement. It's all what your schedule will allow.
