never thought i'd be that guy, but i've given it a try.
love it...i start work at 930 so i have plenty of time.
so nice not having to worry about going to the gym at night time when i'm all tired.
great way to start the day...

I like it been doing it more lately but I still hit the gym in the evening for more cardio yeah good times.

I just can't do it. I feel so damn weak in the morning. In the morning i can only lift about half what I can lift later on in the day. I wander if its just me though.

just a mental thing bro, no phyiscal reason why that would be

AM is good for me. My mind is clear and no accumulated stress from the day.

Unless it's still dark out. Then the space monster strikes - :anvil:

You don't think fasting all night not having any food would have an effect. Wake up and go to the gym (even after eating) and I bet you have a lot less energy.

I am telling you its not in my head. My muscles and my body feel big time weak. I can tell I have no energy stores to work with. Now if I eat a few meals and then head to the gym around 2-3 I feel a lot stronger. And I find the later I go and the more meals I have had before i go the stronger I am.

Lets think about this. You get right up. Your body has not been in motion long. All your muscles are cold and un worked for the day. Everything is tight. recipe for injury.

Pm work out. Been up moving around all day. Body is worked up and energy is at full peak.

There is one reason I can think of for am work outs though. And this is why I used to do them and always wanted to do them.

You get up go to the gym and get that work out out of the way for the day. Lots of times things happen during the day and it ends up stopping you from going to the gym. You get to busy, run out of time, or anything. You can always come up with 100 reasons not to go.

If you jsut get up and go and get it out of the way its over for the day. And nothing can get in the way.

If i had the choice of anytime of the day/night to train, Id say early afternoon as far as energy goes. but bino is right, getting it done first thing does wonders for mood and energy throughout the remainder of the day. Ive done the 5am workout thing and it is tough. so tough that it causes burnout in most peeps.

I do it for that reason when I am dieting as I know I am weaker so going lighter is fine with me. I do lots of supersets and giants when dieting too and next to impossible to do at peak hours after work.

When i did crew in college, it was 6AM every day. We were only on the water a few months out of the year so the rest time was rigorous strength/endurance training. I loved it.

Early afternoon is prime. When I was in college I had a lull in the afternoon for a semester so that is when I went to workout, was always strong as fuck, beating previous bests on a regular basis. I workout at 6:00AM now. I do feel weaker. I don't eat anything before I go, which is stupid, but I'm draggin ass at that point. I roll out of bed and probably just start waking up when I hit the doors to the gym. It's sweet to be done, workout out of the way, I'm a helluva lot more alert when I get to work at 8:00. It has its advantages and disadvantages....

If I had to be at work at 9:30 I would get a meal in me.

Good point. I could do that kind of a work out in the morning. I could never do heavy squats and dead lifts though. I can hardly see str8 let alone put 600lb on my back and fuck around with it.

lol

Im hittin the gym tomorrow morning 6am so I'll let you know

You know whats funny? I think i will start doing the am work outs to. Just because I think it will make things so much more easy for me. Just get it out of the way. Go drop the kids of at school then hit up the gym then come home and go to work.

Once a start working its so hard to get away from the desk.

the eating part was a big problem for me in the past
i thought that i couldn't go right after i ate, and i didn't want to get up early just to eat.
but swole was right, the body metabolizes super fast in the early AM...instead of cooking eggs and toast like i used to, now i just have a big bowl of granola and a bananna and i'm lifting 15 minutes later, feeling great and energized, no cramping from the food.
slam a protein drink on the way to work and it's on...no more dreading having to go to the gym after working a long day...now i just come home and chill :mexican:
it really is a better plan of attack

I have been training in the AM now for the last year and love it. I go around 10am everyday and I find thats my sweet spot for strength and endurance. I am so mentally drained after a long day at the office I just want to rest. I have made the best gains in the last year also. I get up at 5:30 every day and have my coffee, banana and protein, then I eat a full breakfast around 8:30 and about 10am I am ready to tear some shit up! After that I just try and eat and rest. My muscles seem to like it better also. When I use to workout in the evening with the normal crowd I would go home eat a couple times and go to bed and would wake up much more sore and stiff. If I work out in the morning I stay active the rest of the day until night and I'm not near as sore when I wake up. This is all just my experience from someone switching from 14-15 years of evening workouts to a total change to mornings. I think it has really helped me. Maybe I'm just getting old, lol!

That's another important plus for AM - it's always less crowded. Not just having to wait but the noise and having to be considerate of your neighbors takes it's toll.

Absolutely necessary if you want to use two pieces of equipment at once.

Ive been at the gym at 6am 4 of the last 5 days and I guess it just takes a short time to get used to this. Now that i know its doable, and isnt horrible, it keeps me motivated to continue. Also, 6am isnt TOO early and as long as I get to bed at a decent hour and get my rest, really no reason why I cant continue on in this fashion. Right now I'm only doing cardio so perhaps once i incorporate more lifting into the equation, that will make it more difficult

This is the number 1 reason I workout in the AM. I'm a bit impatient in the gym. Early morning, there is like 3 people in the free weight area.

At 5:30-7:00pm, that shit is so crowded I can barely move in there.

it's so beatiful not to have to lift at night just so you can chill and relax.
i don't always look forward to driving back to the gym after working 10 hrs.
and now i get to work way early so extra bonus

just a question for some of the guys who workout in the morning...

do you ever experience a crash later in the day?? i was told that you feel really good after you workout, and even for a few more hours after that, but eventually you just completely crash. the way i see it, if you eat enough you'll be fine but what do you guys think?

and i also hate lifting at night because it is so damn crowded and everyone is fighting for everything. i am 17 years old/in high school do you guys know how i can convince my parents to let me lift in the morning because they seem really against it?

I'd agree with Bino - I feel great all day. Definitely more alert and on top of things. I do take caffeine (200mg) right right when more alarm goes off at 5:40, hit snooze once and get up and go, so that might help....but no, I don't crash after a few hours.

Why would your parents be against working out in the morning?

my mom asked the doctor who went to Columbia who treats my brother for ADHD says it's not good... gave no reasoning behind it, but it's not good to him lol

however, just got in my first morning workout today and i feel really energized right after. i hope to make a habit of this during the week before school... but if i can't i will have to settle with after school (i can't stand going at night with so many people at the gym)

do you lift at your school?
man i miss my old hs gym good times

I would if i could - gotta be in school at 8.45, that means being out of the house at 8.30 latest and Im prett sure the gym opens at 8.30 lol. Even if they open at 7.30 that still means getting up at like 6.45 then biking to the gym, workin out, gettin bk, PWO shake, shower, get ready for school, eat again, then bike to school. Damn that would be hard.

If I had my choice though I would go at around 10.00am for main workout then again at around 8.30pm for abs, forearms, rotator cuffs, calves maybe even a little cardio... that sorta stuff.
