work out with back injury

I was wondering if you can still work on your lower body with a bad back , I hurt my back two weeks ago and the doc told me to rest no training at all but if I stop for too long I might never go back to the gym for long time, so exercise should I avoid ? training my upper body? thank you.

I would follow your doctors advice on this one. If you want to do anything, maybe book an appointment with another doctor to get a second opinion.

Anytime you do a compound leg exercise like squats, you indirectly train your lower back and entire posterior chain.

I am not sure the exact details of your injury but you can very easily make your injury worse by training legs before your doctor gives you the green light.

Lower back is a shitty part of the body to injure, as it is involved in practically all workouts. Sincerely, you need to know exactly what is happening there first, and get it healed. Training with unhealed injuries can be very bad, as you can get the injury worse, and end up away from the gym for a much longer time. Nothing will happen just because you don't train for several days - your health is more important than that.
