Womens Bodybuilding-The Romano Factor

John Romano, Senior Editor of the magazine, says this about the sport of Womens Professional Bodybuilding:

"The way I see it....female bodybuilding has become the ultimate redheaded stepchild. While there's much conjecture over the fact that perhaps it can be saved, the fact is it's just too far gone!"

"A female jacked on male horomones just isn't a pretty thing.....Other than female bodybuilding, there's no such thing as an "Ugly Contest". If nothing else they have proven themselves-from sellout crowds at Madison Square Gardesn to a "Sideshow" at an Expo. Get the point ladies.....your act sucks!"

"The first step toward saving women's bodybuilding is to recognize it's oddity, then sell it to those who want to buy it. To drag it along side a community it has clearly outgrown is as disgraceful as it is morbid."

"Womens bodybuilding needs to be cleaved from the IFBB and renamed, "Extreme Female Physical Enhancemant", and left to find itself a warm and inviting home among the "schmoe's" of the world. Why insist on sticking around where you're not wanted? Just because women decide to imbibe male horomones and blow themselves up into androgynous aberations of the female form doesn't mean a bodybuilding federation has to provide them with a venue in which to exploit it....In it's current confused state, women's bodybuilding is clearly not welcome in today's hierarchy. WOMEN SHOULD HAVE LEFT BODYBUILDING TO THE MEN!"

definately sexist but when they are at extremes i agree completely, girls taking guys hormones is wierd as shit. consider it the same as michael jackson trying to make himself white. the result is a freakish half breed. but nothign wrong with girls that bodybuild, its just that they shouldn't be judged on who is the manliest looking.......... merely who is in great shape and sexy as hell

nothing wrong with women building as much muscle as they can naturally, but i agree that when they start taking androgens it's gone too far.

I understand where Romano is coming from...There is not alot of "hype" when it comes to female body builders...i coudlnt name the woman that won the "O" title in her class to save my life..sad but true....BUT to each there own...if that is their passion then who are we to knock it....It must still be a "need" IF the IFBB still includes them into the shows...personally i like the fitness chicks..but thats just me...

I agree with Romano. A great illustration of this is the success of figure competitions. Figure has taken off and is more popular than most thought it would be. At the BB shows most of the audience are there for the figure competitors. It's gotten so big, that prejudging runs all the way to the evening shows. When the female BB's come out everyone leaves. It's gotten too extreme. I don't like watching it. I would much rather watch a hot figure girl that is in great shape than she male.

Seems pretty harsh. I respect female bodybuilders, and I think that a lot of them look good--mainly when they aren't dialed in for competition. I think a figure model physique is more attractive, but you gotta give them credit for hard work. I admit it is odd when females start taking androgens. When men take female hormones, it's because they are transgendered. Logically speaking, it's pretty much the same thing when a woman takes male hormones--they become masculinized.

For example how messed up would it be, if people paid to see guys try to look like girls. thats what female bbing has turned into, females who take androgens and ultimately turn into "androgynous aberations". when a guy takes test, its fine because thats the male horm. but when a girl takes an androgen, thats not normal that would be the equivalent of a male taking estrogen, not normal. further more, this is simply not bbing, what are we judging, males or females? if we are judging females in female bbing, then these girls cant compete because cleary they do not qualify as females. and if we are to judge female bbing as males, well then that defeats the purpose of having a female bbing category in the first place. so bottom line, its no longer bbing and its no longer feminine, female bbing has pretty much become "become-a-male bbing" where the winner is the contestant that looks the most like a male. and what romano says is not sexist in anyway, its true.

I can attest that all of my figure clients work their ass off as hard as a female BB.
