your mood swings and where they come from.

also, please elaborate on what can be done to deal with
them, once they start, without starting world war 3, and what can be done to prevent them?

a much frustarted boogie man.

I only get them on my monthly. Best thing for me is for someone to say nothing and stay away. The very worst would be to ask if I am on the rag or some crap like that.

Buy her a choke collar and chain for Christmas....

No idea. I'm even keeled 99.% of the time. I hide from people when the 1% starts showing up!

Me too, I'm lucky that way, I don't even get pms, no cramps, no mood swings.

(waiting for Code to post and say "that's because you're a man") :D

And If I DO get in a bad mood for some other reason, I keep a low profile.. :wodin:

Marry me!! LOL

It's the hormones. I know this sounds like an excuse, but it's true. Women's hormones fluctuate according to their menstrual cycle, whereas men's hormones remain comparatively stable.

It's worse with some women than others. I'm not one who ever had bad mood swings, but for the short time I tried the birth control pill, I had horrible mood swings that would come out of nowhere. It was scary (esp for my poor husband). The BC is full of hormones. When I went off the pill I was back to normal.

Also when women are pregnant and for several months after giving birth, their hormones REALLY fluctuate. So any fathers-to-be should be forewarned.

Then of course there are some women who are just naturally moody. It's like a game to them to keep everyone else unbalanced at the mercy of their moods. They use their moods to control others and get what they want. I pity any man who has to live with this.

Fit....CHILDBIRTH BLUES....Oy Vey! I forgot about that period of time. I cried more than the kid did!

It only lasted a few short weeks- THANK GOD!!

you know.....i don't think i've ever experienced this with women....or at least not for very long anyway....

i have two days a month that i'm extremely moody. but it only lasts two days and then i'm back to normal. my boyfriend deals with it very well, bless his soul.

i don't enjoy having mood swings, and i'm always anxious for those two days to pass....just stick with it and do whatever she says. :)

so true.. so true!

It also helps if your girl can see she is having a mood swing. (You can't point it out though at least not when it is happening. ) I can tell when I am and sometimes after I realize I just start laughing at myself.

i know several men who are moody. i myself am not which is why i probably notice it in other people. there are too many factors to consider as far as a reason why people are moody.

I never thought these mood swings can be that serius in women cause my mother would always go nuts but I could deal with it

few weeks ago though I went to see an old girl friend from highschool just to kick it and shes hella moody so I make fun of her every once in a while, anyway I told her if its that time of the month again and I thought I was dead man trapped in that little ass dormroom of hers, I actually had to listen to her say some of the meanest words that a girl can come up with and later had to run out of her dorm room and down the stairs to get away from her, it was some scary shit, she started throwing things at me and shit...later that week I see her at a party and shes giving me a hug and stuff.. im still confused.

I'll say that estrogen plays a role in me being more irritable than usual sometimes....but if I'm being moody, argumentative, and irrational, then that is 100% me not controlling my feelings. There's not an excuse that makes my bad behavior okay. I can control it....but I don't always do so. Though if I flip out over little things I almost always appologize for it.

I used to think that PMS was a bullshit excuse, and that women were using hormones as an excuse to act bitchy and whiny for no good reason....

...then I used Clomid, and I understood completely!

If you aggree to everything, "then you're just patronizing me!"

if you try and quietly disagree "you are just being difficult!"

if you try and lay low "You never spend any time with me, ever!"

if you try and be attentive "You are suffocating me, dont you think I can do anything by myself, ever?"

the only way is, in the words of the great Master:

Look to the water at your feet. Does not the sage say: "What is more yielding than water? Yet, back it comes again, wearing down the ridged strength, which cannot stand to its strength. What is more forceful than quite water?"

Poor guy...if it is the "big 2" day PMS moodiness there is not much you can do. Lay low and work overtime or have pre-scheduled outings with friends. :) You know exercise helps a great deal..and so does vitamin B, however if your "friend" doesn't already exercise now wouldn't be the time to ask he if she would like to go on a long run...that is unless you want an argument. :)

If it is everyday moodiness, there is something else going on, who knows possibly, unhappiness somewhere in her life, stress, anxiety or possible even a underlying medical problem. If it is everyday, even though it may be difficult you probably should sit down, take cover, and try to uncover the root of the problem. My sister was like this for years. I couldn't handle being around her for more than a 1/2 hour, believe me her husband was a saint for living with her for all of that time. But finally she was able to go to the doctor and found medicine that "evened her out".

Good Luck!! :)

I hate to say "It's the hormones" but it's so damn true & can be unpredictable. I find my moodiness can be annoying cuz some months I get it & some I don't. It seems like a cop out, but the hormones truly do play a factor & I don't always understand why I feel that way. But being aware of yourself is helpful & I try not to take it out on others.

Extra protein & calcium have helped me with pre-period symptoms. Also, when I do feel moody I say "Damn, I feel cranky" and surprisingly it helps to decrease my moodiness.

Now, if it IS everyday moodiness like Toga said, then it's probably something else and psycho-tropic meds could help. I knew a woman who you couldn't even be around for 1/2 hour. Now when she's on meds, she's ok. Go off the meds & look out!!
