My grandfather was a second lieutenant in the Navy during WWII, commanded a landing craft and served in the Pacific. He died when I was fairly young, I would have liked to heard some of his stories. He did bring a Japanese rifle back from the war.

By the time my dad got back he didn't want anything to do with the army or any pacific islands or anything associated with them anymore, ever. Army Corps of Engineers, WWII, South Pacific.

My father refused to participate when the Japanese were allowed to tour his manufacturing plant in the early 1980's. He was the maintenance supervisor.
