Wireless N Question for the computer guys

So, I've got a wireless N setup going. Works pretty good. But it seems like my battery doesnt last for shit now. Is that the higher speeds? Or is my battery going bad?

Thanks!

I have a N setup and have not noticed any difference in battery life. Is your N adapter built in, a card, USB? If its USB it could possibly be draining your battery, that's the only thing I can think of. If its built in or an adapter it should not add any more of a load to your comp.

For what it is worth I've been told by computer guys a few times to never leave a laptop plugged in all the time with the battery in - it kills the battery life. So when you do want to use the laptop off the battery only the battery dies fairly quick if it even gets a charge at all anymore.

Yep. However, I wouldn't say 'kills' the battery. I would say 'poorly conditions the battery'.

That said, some of the new batteries don't have this problem anymore because they've switched technology to something that doesn't need to be conditioned to hold a charge for an extended time.

Does Lumberg know? :lmao:

You know, just because a person knows something about computers doesn't mean that they know everything about computers. :D

Maybe this isn't his specialty?

Or maybe you're the blond chick that Lumberg19723 tells the group about at the computer meets?

"She's soo crazy. She leaves her laptop pluged in all the time!"

"Dude! Are you going to tell her?

"Only if she stops giving me anal."

If you just switched from vista to xp you may not have installed or properly configured the power management software on your laptop. Even though you can switch an OS on a laptop typically whatever OS they come with is what they will run best with.. Also don't skimp on the cost of a computer you get what you pay for,.

+1 and you might not have the right drivers (although this is rare)

Yeah I'm thinking this might have a huge role to play in it. I didnt skimp on hardware though -- dell xps m1330 2.4 DuoCore, 4 gig ram, dedicated video, etc etc etc.

oh well.

Hey. Tell me if that machine can play TF2 at a reasonable rate. I got the M1530 because of the graphics card, but I was looking at the M1330 because of the size.
