Windows Media Player problem...

I converted some video files into a media file for my girlfriend a while back and burned them to cd. It is the same type of media that is on my website...

I can watch the cd's on my computer but she can not on her laptop. She gets audio but no video...

Any ideas???

B True

Yes. She will not watch it without the appropriate compression software

http://www.divx.com

Click download link

Tell her to install it

REstart her laptop

She will be able to watch it.

Thanks...we will hook her computer up to the internet and see if that works.

Ok...this didn't work.

A month and a half later she informs me that it doesn't work...lol.

It comes up under Windows Media Player and says 'downloading codec' and then it says that there is an error downloading the codec.

Shows no video...only audio.

hey man you need to update her windows media player

i'm guessing she has windows 98 on that laptop

windowsupdate.microsoft.com select win media player 9.

I think she has Windows ME actually...both on her laptop and her desktop.

ME is eeeevil....

Typically, you just have to find the right codec. On some media files, you can right click on the file, look at the properties, and it'll tell you what codec they were created with. You can then google for the name of the codec, find it, install it, and be good to go.

Another option would be to install the Kazaa Lite codec pack.

project thats not the problem, hes talking about windows media files.

clint you just need to download the latest version of media player from microsoft and you will have no problems

the elusive codec. bane of all internet porn plunderers.....er...um.

d/l the latest media player or look for codecwarehouse online

Got the new media player...no difference.

Can't find what type of codec it is...

Hmmm...still doesn't seem to work...

Seems like we don't know what codec is missing. Here's how to find out.

Go to http://www.virtualdub.org/ and download Virtual Dub. Load the movie up in Vdub. Once it's loaded in Vdub, go

FILE - FILE INFORMATION

That should give you the codecs in use for both audio and video. Make sure it's downloaded.

It might also be a permissions issue - with media player auto downloading the new codecs. I had that problemo once.

Hope this helps.

Why are we assuming that it's a WMV file?

he said the videos are the same format as those on his site...the only format on his site is .WMV

She can view he video on my site but they are compressed. These are not.

Going to try virtual dub..

It is ATI Video 2 format...

Maybe that is the problem????

Great thread! I needed all this info because for the longest time I had Ronnie Coleman's vid, but only the sound :(

I'll try it tomorrow night when I am back at her place...

I came to a solution today...pick up the computer and throw it from the 2nd floor window... Go down and pick it up again and throw it as far as I could...then kick it...A LOT. If it still works...I was going to reboot it and see if that did anything...

Ok big fella.

I have been tracking this thread for a minute or two. I have some advice.

Whenever I need somehting to play and it doesnt I do this. Click on the properties of the file and copy it. Paste it into a SEARCH engine and see what it comes up with.

Sometimes it works. I am not a PC guy man but I go to this when this type of shit happens.
