Will it never end?

I believe it is a mild case of patellar/quadriceps tendon tendonitis that is starting to happen. I just started the volume phase too. Some slight discomfort actually began a week and a half ago, but I worked with it (ice and everything) but it has worsened.

I'm going to keep doing what I doing, especially with the restorative measures, but looks like this will cut short the loading cycle once again.

First the flu, now this. Will it never end?

I've been down a similar road, only thing is that it was a broken wrist. Sure 8 weeks out of a gym is bad, but the 5-6 months of having it constantly flare up is worse.

My advice is not do anything to aggravate it -- let it heal as best you can.

thanks.

the way i look at it is: i'm only going to be in this "growth" age (i'm 17 still) for a little while. i'm trying to train as hard as i can and take advantage of the natural test and all. this really fucks things up

Ditto, ligament and tendon injuries take a fucking long time to heal due to low vascularity. You need your legs, regardless if you train or not :)

Badluck comes in 3s...never understood where that came from.

We got till 22 or something man...I hope. I'm 20 and cutting...feeling bad about that :S

well look at how much your squatting, and your deliberately not allowing recovery for your CNS and muscles in the loading phase

tendons recover even slower....

thats one bad point for loading/deloading style setups, they're good if your body can take it, but it will catch up to you later down the road.

Tape it up, get a sleeve, use icy hot...etc...

No reason to push unless you HAVE to though...

Personally bro, I think you shoulda done the 2X a week intensity phase. Plus you seem to do alot of other physical activities. I don't think you properly deloaded.

Hope it heals up quick though. My tendons above the knee caps were a little tight feeling for the first 3 weeks of volume, but then it went away in week 4 and stayed gone.

hah consider yourself much better off than me. Im 18 yo and been only going to gym for about 7 months. I now have a minor (but disturbing) lower back injury, rotator cuff injury, knee problem (going on for years now), elbow injury, and etc.. Im coming completely off any type of exercise for at least this week.

when i started training, i had lower back and knees problems as well. this went away with proper training.

strange, i think i am one of the lucky ones with shoulder issues. i've been playing baseball since i could pick up a bat and have never had rotator cuff problems. my dad and i used to go out and throw the ball at each other as hard or as far as we could till it was too dark to see.

by sleeve you mean those rehband things?

Honestly...I'd get the much thinner and less expensive ones if I were you. I got some at Wal-Mart a few years ago that I'll wear if my knees hurt me.

The lower back problem is from mistakenly rounding my lower back while trying to chuck the bar off my traps. It happened so fast.... :(.

yep ive battled elbow tendonitis for literally 6 months..why? becaue i refused to rest..i did drop direct bicep work but continued to do heavy bench work even though at times my arm was killing me..

my point non of us like to take time of but sometimes that is exactly what needs to be done..for my neoprene sleeves helped a lot as well as liniments/ice/ibuprofin/elctro stimulator

i have ibuprofene lying around but i don't think i need it quite yet. it's feeling a lot better this morning, after a solid 12 hours of sleep and a night out at the buffet. i almost feel like i can continue..

anyway, i will continue icing my knees, using NSAIDs, stretching around the joints/massaging, and probably tonight begin heat packing.

thanks for all the advice guys.

harhar, i saw the ironmind tape too where the dude squats 500 then throws it over his head. it was so fucking cool...

What kind of liniments do you like man?

I have icy hot, absorbine JR, Absorbine for horses (same thing) and some other type of horse liniment laying around that actually smells like spearmint that I like to use.

i was using biofreeze that i got from the chiro..it wasnt bad just expensive..
i bought some equine stuff(blue lotion) from www.elitefts.com fairly cheap and it gets nice and hot especially when you cover the area and get a sweat going..

i've used this chinese stuff, similar effect. it's nice, the more you sweat the more it burns. the problem is you get in the shower and it continues to work. ouch!

tiger balm?

make sure you wash yor hands before handling the goods lol

no tiger balm isn't that strong. this is some liquid stuff that is like 100x stronger than anything i've ever used.

yeah, i'd imagine it would be terrible to have the sting down there haha

has anyone tried mentholatum before? That thing burns. I tried it for the first time (lower back) couple days ago.

i was gonna say ive used tiger balm in the past and it worked for minor things but it wasnt really strong..

back in my hockey days i always seemed to pull groins/hammies and lived on liniments but u can imagine how close you get to the goods lol

I may try to get me some of that when I come back to the States on Holidays.

When I need HOT stuff...I use Zostrix-HP. Hot for days...and I learned the hard way about the "goods". It stays on your hands...even after you wash them.

is that zostrix available in the states?
sounds like some potent stuff

Got it at Wal-Mart. I think it was like $13 for a tube...lasts a LONG time. I'll try to take a pic and post it before Monday. Another Holiday weekend here:)
