Wild Meat

deer meat is great for u, as long as it's not mixed w/ beef/pork, etc. i kill 10-20 deer each fall/winter and i eat about 1/2 during the year. the other 1/2 i donate or give to family/friends.

WOW!!!! 10-20 deer a year that is nuts. You Americans have strange laws which i now realize include animal conservation. In most parts of Canada you are aloud one deer a year and it can only be a buck unless you are selected in the Doe draw. Its sound sunny but that is how it works. Only Canadians that can kill that many is the Natives.

I just moved to Alberta from Ontario and i already have shot my 3 deer. I was also under the impression that it was 1 per person but here you get a general tag that is good for any sex and in any region with a general hunt and then you receive 2 doe tags that are restricted in that you can only shoot them in certain areas. Now this year there is also one more tag that i could get for a doe but it is in the chronic wasteing disease area, and i am not really interested in hunting there. My old lady who also hunts shot 1 doe so far and still has her other 2 tags available but 4 is enough for our family. I took one whole deer and made it into sausage, pepperettes, and hamburger and the rest is barbecue fare, and roasts , and lots of homemade jerky. I would live off of the stuff, but too much of anything gets borish, hence the variety.

Right on. Still the stupid doe draw in my region but that is ok there is always friends with tags who only want a couple of feeds from their deer and the rest is shared. I have not hunted deer in several years but i was fortunate enough to get selected with for the Doe tag twice. Once I shot a doe and once i shot a spike horn i though was a Doe lol....Oh well they weren't the biggest deer in the world but good eating. Did anyone ever try pickled meats such as moose or rabbit or deer in the jar. A friend made some and it was the most tender and tasty meat i had enjoyed in a while.

I used to eat deer meat a lot.. .my dad always hunted.. i never really enjoyed the animal killing part, i dont know im weird! lol i always enjoyed being out in the woods though, trees, quiet, animals...

anyways, i ate venison everything, if you could use the meat, i ate it... used to eat liver pretty often too, but not anymore... my dad canned a lot of meat too, i enjoyed that, good flavor and u could take the tallow off the top and it was basically zero fat
