wide grip benching

i have recently switched to heavy wide grip benching in order to build some size and strength. ive always done my chest press movements a little closer gripped and was getting too much assistance i felt from my triceps. my chest feels so torn up after that. what do you guys prefer?
 
I've heard that if you squeeze your hands together while you press you will focus on the pecs more. Pushing your hands apart will focus on the triceps. I train for strength so I don't do either. Just a thought. I don't know if it will help or not.
