Why do some people have to use this board to argue and fight?

I know that some of you will say that it is just words written by a stranger, so it shouldn't matter.

Well guess what?

The written word is one of the most powerful weapons that we posess as humans. You can do many things with it.

You can destroy a government with it
Or you can build one.

You can tear people down and break their will.
Or you can offer encouragement and a helping hand.

The written word can bring forth all the emotions of the human spirit, both good and bad.

I just think it is easier to say something nice as opposed to something mean and cruel.

I'm not defending anyone or accusing anyone. I just think that people need to realize the weight of their words before they type them.

because this place is like life. people aren't always going to get along so that's what happens. Plus people are not face to face so there's not intimidation or threat of physical reprisal. Finally, some people are just plain crazy.

I'm guilty of encouraging fights on the board because I find it amusing how some people can get so worked up over typed words. If this board can do that to someone, they must be fucked when it comes to the real world.

That was a good post big, but I am of the camp that finds conflict interesting, both here and in real life.
 
An idea: In our profiles we can put lil stars** reflecting the level of thick skins we all have....

IE: * = panty waste!
** = Yeah I can take a joke!
*** = Flame my ass till it burns!

yeah but what happens when the real world becomes mixed up with this place? what happens when you physically meet EF members and things go bezerk?

Sure, I care about my close friends and family. I have not made any close friends nor do my family members post on this board, thus if you let this shit fuck up your life....well that is your own damn fault. I have enough stress in my life and you want me to worry about some random character on this damn board. Personally, I do not believe half the shit that people post on this board, so what makes you think I would believe that something severe has happened to one of the members just because they claim so.

Usually just to waste some time at work. Probably have not noticed, but I rarely even post anymore. So to answer your question, I do not spend hardly any of my time here. Also check in sometimes at night to see if there are any good political debates going on.

We will have to agree to disagree on that point. I simply believe that actions are much more powerful then words. I guess that is where I differ from you and many others.
 
I didn't say they were more powerful than actions, but that they can cut like knives and be a venomous weapon. All I am saying is there is no reason to degrade people on here with no conscience about it.

Bigs, once again, you hit the nail right on. :) Internet or not, cruel words and intentions will transcend across the screen. Someone can choose to ignore it and not let it get to them, but the truth is, their 'experience' here might never return to be the same fun, lighthearted experience it was meant to be.

Our society today is void of respect in many areas.----its sad.


What happens a lot on this board is someone posts their feelings/convictions and then someone else feels threatened for whatever reason and strikes out with personal negativity(instead of objectively disagreeing)----It is then the initial poster's responsibility to stick to the issue and not sink to the level of the name calling and other childish acts.

If everyone would respect other's views we would not have this problem, but this is not a perfect world nor perfect board.

oh well---If it is any consolation, I think it is getting better---believe it or not!:)

Hey Big, most of the people who post negative comments about others, have some fear that controls their thinking, a fear of unknown, or worse. (Where is Musclebrains?) At some point in their life, the source of their fear damaged their pysche, so they lash out (SG does it for fun, I think), to protect their insecurities.

As for multiple mistakes, that would be a character flaw if you cannot control yourself to avoid the same mistakes.

Most people don't respect themselves, let alone others.

The operative word is "word." People constantly abuse language not only here but in daily life. They mistake high level abstractions for reality. JUSTICE FREEDOM DEMOCRACY RIGHTS. This is the center of many disputes as people argue with only the vaguest sense of what these words mean. If two people have differing view on the meaning of one of these abstractions all discussion will be ultimately useless.
 
There is a world of difference between personal attacks and debating. I love reading the debates on the various issues that get brought up around here, especially when they get heated and name-calling left and right. What I hate to see, is when instead of arguing about an issue, they resort to attacking the person personally for things that have nothing to do with the issue. I also hate to see people attacking others for no other reason and without provacation other than their personal dislike and complete disrespect for whoever they are attacking.

What is that called when someone tries to hurt someone else else on purpose without provacation? Oh yeah, a bully.

I totally agree with the thread... it makes no sense that we are here to understand one another and to see others in a different light as well as help each other in a common area.
