some kids would make up some excuse about it, like "i have braces cause i got hit by a train when i was on tour with the stones!" and then get all mad at anyone who even looked at them funny, which made things WAY worse for them.
and then other kids were cool with the comments, nicknamed themselves "Red" (or carrottop) and although not proud of their affliction, they were cool with their differences and the fact that kids would stare.
