Why lie?

I don't get it. At work, I got in trouble today. Someone send a note to their VP about how I don't support their group. My dealings with that group showed me that they don't "think" things through when they propose new ideas.

So, I send a note about that to that person. That person cc'ed someone else who eventually cc'ed the director and the VP.

At the same time, we're promoting talking frankly at work. I guess it's like free speech. You can talk frankly...just don't expect NOT to get punished for it.

It hardly seems worth it some days.

Ppl always preach about the importance of telling the truth and all that and I agree with the importance of truth.
Sometimes however, we must be "diplomatic" (i.e. omit facts) in order to smooth the truth out...
Example: If you don't like one's working methods, do not go up to him and say: "I Hate your working methods". Although truthful, that would be destructive. A better approach imo would be to approach him and say: "Look man, I would like you to teach me to do this thing in this certain way, although I know you do it differently. Lets try it out, maybe it will improve my understanding of what's going on"
By showing that you are "the wrong one", you will not interfere with his ego and thus, he will be more open to sugestions.
Ego is a major issue.

I fully realize that it's all a play and a game. I'm just tired of playing right now given the implications of where they are headed.

I like consistent behavior or at least understandable behavior. I'm too meritocratic nowadays.

how would a meritocracy work in an organization full of canadians?

the one who makes the least spelling mistakes gets ahead? :D

sorry enderj.

I HATE office politics.

You should see the young new hires in large law firms. SHARKS, I tell you! They are visciously trying to throw each other under the bus.

I always thought that was the real training for a successful Lawyer, LOL.

That's why I won't work in an office, or in a large department. I honestly don't have the skills or the patience for mind games like that. My whole career it's always been just myself in my jobs or tasks, or as a member of a team, where we all have responsibilities.
