Why is it that a grocery store sells beer and wine, but not liquor? Does it have something to with licencing?? Feel free to fix my grammer and spelling.

Yes indeed. In my state the beer they sell at the grocery store has a lower alcohol content. No liquor or wine is at grocery stores. In other states they have full liquor stores right in the middle of the grocery store. Totally depends on state laws.

It just is a pain to go to the ABC store, but they close at 9pm. Then you can go to the only liquor store we have in town, I think, but their prices are way higher. Damit Walmart they are susposed to have everything.

As was said it varies by state. In MA, you can't buy booze on Sunday. Damn puritians.
In NM, you can buy Hard A in Walgreens, they have some wierd law though. Might be another Sunday thing.
Those are both better than WA state, where hard A can only be sold in official state liquor stores, and they have crappy hours. Like 9 on the weekend. WTFF.
CA you can buy in a grocery store, but my favorite has been Nevada.
You can go to the Texaco, fill up on gas, play some slots, and grab a fifth of JD.

It varies from state to state. In Washington, liquor distribution is controlled through State run stores only. It all depends on how the Liquor Control Board in your state wants things done. Bottom line.... $$$$$$$$$$$.

Here in Ontario we have the LCBO, which is a government run outfit, the only one authorized to retail hard liquor. Some newer grocery stores sell wine in a separated space with different hours than the main store. Then we have The Beer Store which was government run, but I think is privatized now. Again, the only one allowed to retail beer that I know of.

we have liquor and package stores here...grocery stores do not sell beer...we have to go to NH for beer at the grocery store but it is cheaper so worth it....but NH doesnt have hard shit unless you go to the liquor store

no we only have 2-4 package stores per town though....i go to NH, the sell beer at the grocery store.
and the whole sunday thing is that we cannot buy it untill the afternoon and they stop selling it early in the evening on sunday..that is all...i guess that way there people wont go to church drunk, or wake up monday morning with severe headaches...lol

Beer and Wine is sold in every Grocery Store

Liquor is sold in separate stores or a grocery owned store that is attached
next to the grocery store. Albersons does this.

A few Fla Counties and Cities have laws what we called BLUE LAWS regarding no sales of booze on Sunday midnight or morning until like noon or 1pm.
Called that because it was to keep all the Blue haired old ladies happy.

I've traveled in some states with very limited access to booze at State Stores and
it was weird having to go out of the way just for beer.

I remember the first time asking a grocery store dude once "Yo man, where's the beer" , and getting a look like I was asking him where the local Hookers Hangout or something.

It's a state thing. here in my province, liquor (and most wines) can only be purchased at the goverment's store. grocery stores only sell domestic beer and cheap ass wines.

but our walmarts have hard alcohol and every grocery store too .....

I rather go to scotts then most liquer stores cause they have a bigger selection ....

From new Orleans to Pennsylvania. In New Orleans, you can get liquor anywhere, walgreens, to kiosks at the mall. When we first visited PA, I paced a large grocery store 4 times before asking where the beer was. Then I was told NO stores carried beer or wine. WTF???? Almost killed her on the spot. Beer in one store, wine and spirits in another. And the beer selection sucks ass, I was spoiled in Portland, OR where the microbrew was king. And you can only buy by the case. Not only does the beer suck, but I have to buy an assload of it???On the flip side I rarely drink anymore. Maybe a couple of pints, with dinner if I'm eating out. Whatever...
