...use to work out, or are related to you are the most critical of what we do.
My father has worked out for about 20 years until back surgery 2 years ago. A ruptured disk, caused by lifting at work and things around the house. This might have been avoided if he had ever done any back work, IMHO
My rant is everytime a talk to him about working out, his theory and routine for 20 years was M/W/F. Bench press, Military Press, Curls, Pullovers and sometimes a squat. And of course asking me what I bench now. In 20 years he never benched higher than about 235 and curled about a 100. I don't know on squats or presses. I just can't talk to him about it without getting pissed off, cause he thinks what I do is, too much per day, too few times, per week. My routin since Chrismas has been
3 working sets, mostly
Monday Chest/Tris
Incline BP
Flat BP or DB Press
Icline Flies or pullovers
CG BPress
SkullCrushers
Pushdowns
Tuesday Back
Deadlifts
Rows
Pulldown
Good Mornings
Decline Situps
Wed Bi's, wrists, & rotators
Thursday Shoulders & Traps
Military press
Side Raises
Rear Raises
2 15 rep shruggs
3 5-8 rep heavy shruggs
Friday Legs
Extensions - warmups
Squats 2-light 2-normal 1-heavy
Leg Curls
SLDLs
So far this has been great for me. I am around 188-193 lbs, diet is good and I am seeing good results. That's what is important to me. Personally I feel my 3 sets are, too few, but my results are a lot better than when I use to do 5 sets per.
A friend of mine that use to compete is always telling me how I should do things, and then wanders why I don't go to the gym with him... I can't stand it, I work out at home, I'm not putting up over 300 lbs right now, so I don't want to join a gym, I have good money in good equipment. Yet I have never worked out with him and hesays I do things wrong,
when actually the things he describes to me sometimes make no sense at all... such as I don't need to do deadlifts or never use a barbell for doing presses.... by the way he is dumb bell fiend, swears against the barbell no matter what, on any movement... no squats either only leg presses...
I have one friend, a former football player, around town, that I can actually talk with. He is not really into it any more due to injuries, but he keeps his body fat low. Thats it other than my wife, who is my partner. She has trained with me for a year now. We keep each others form in check and have progressed together.
And then you guys, I don't post much I know, but I am always logged in and reading, so thanks I really appreciate it. You keep the peace to me. Other wise I would be chasing different routines all the time and ending up no where and hurt.
Thanks for listening to my rant.
