Why does paypal require this?

Ive got 200$ in my paypal account but I cant withdraw it without giving out my social security number to them because Ive already withdrawn my $500 limit this month. I will have to wait until next month to get the $200 left in my account unless I give them my SS number, why??? I dont know if I want to give them my SS number....

I use PayPal w/ credit card, but I don't think they've ever asked for my SSN. Can't think of any legit reason they'd need that unless you were their employee or had a transaction of $10,000+, which I know at least banks are required to report to IRS.

Did they contact you, or did you contact them? If they contacted you, that sounds like a scam.

I've only bought stuff on Ebay. Haven't sold anything yet - figured I'd better get my #'s up first so people won't be scared to buy from me.

so they can track you down just in case you sold something on ebay and not deliverd, just trying to cash out

I only use CC on paypal as well. I dont verify the account with my bank since I've heard alot of bad stuff about it, but its still convenient.

I've never been asked for SSN. just be careful and if you can wait go for it.
