Why does gravity occur?

one i said spacetime curvature is proven not general relativity where they relate curved spacetime to gravitational phenomenon....and the curvature was found out years ago by someone looking to see a star that was behind the sun and it they could still see it...what happend was the light from the star was being curved around the sun from the sun's spacetime curvature.

You spoke as if general relativity was the final answer in gravitational theory and I was ignorant to not accept it. Then you asked me if I heard about the most recognized physicist of the 20th century, which I took as an insult. Not a sincere question.
My initial point was that there is no conclusive explanation to the gravitational force and that's very interesting. We know how it happens, but there are only assumptions on why it happens. Very curious...
OK, mercere, but don't we just accept some things as intrinsic to their very nature in order to forestall unproductive thinking and clear the decks for usefull inquiry? For instance, we can't prove that what we 'see' is, in fact, an accurate reflection of reality. The stipulation that if an object has mass it will resonate some way in the universe is not one that bothers me. We can seek to understand it better, but gravity itself is merely a construction used to facilitate a useful model.

Quantum electrodynamics >> GR and SR. We're at the point of uniting the forces, but the basis of Einstein's GR makes this an impossible task, being that QM is descrete, and GR continuous. We've done well with the electroweak, but combining any force with gravity is pretty far off into the future. I was a fan of Penrose's Twistor theory, but that got pushed aside and assimilated into loop quantum gravity, one of the many quantum gravity theories (I'm personally not a fan of string theory).

ask 100 phyicists what gravity is.. you'll get 200 different answers. Half of em with variables used as nothing more than placeholders

well they shouldent clash so much.you are right he did only state the second half of what I said but I still like itsamoth said:True, he said the second sentence you stated. However, science cannot prove OR disprove that a god of any sort exists. That's why science and religion threads clash all the time and get real nasty (I'm sure you've seen those in chat, lol.)
one of the greatest scientist of any decadeadmitting there just has to be something greater then us out there.
I am a very open person and would love to read more on him and his theries.
