Why did Microsoft send me a computer virus?

samoth

New member
I rarely turn my computer off, so last night when I did, I let it do those stupid update things I don't give a damn about. Now I get a stupid virus popup every couple hours that says "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting". Yeah, and my computer just froze up two minutes ago... it's never done that before.

Can I sue Microsoft? Why does my computer ask me to do updates all the time, and then the one time I actually let it do it's thing, it infects me with a freakin' virus?

I hate computers. Yeah, let's put the entire world online when every company and it's mother is fighting over proprietary crap. There's gotta be someone I can sue or drop-kick or something...

This would be funny to me if I could actually use a mailbox instead of a computer for important or legal things. But noooooo, they have to use email.

WHEN'S THE LAST TIME MY MAILBOX HAD A VIRUS?! Yeah, that's right. Mailboxes can't get viruses... it's inanimate!!!!!

Stupid technology.

Its easier for me to reimage the machine completely and just keep everything backed up for reloading. Those updates take up memory and processing power for nothing in return.

That's why I never like to do it, but my computer keeps yelling at me to do it.

Stupid matrix.

All of your user title are belong to us. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile. Your collective intelligence or lack thereof will be added to our own.

Hmm... if the Borg kept assimilating dysfunctional societies, would they eventually become bumbling idiots who couldn't figure anything out?

though once about 2 years ago I downloaded the XP service pack2 and then my computer wouldn't boot
so I took it to "geeks-r-us" to have it fixed
I had about 2 dozen gigs of porn stashed in an innocuously named folder
I was kinda sweatin'
sure enough I get the call from geeks boys on the cell while I was driving
"ah were having trouble doin' the fix as there's not enough free space on the hard drive etc."
fuck
had to think quick and save my rep and porn both
I told him there's this folder with my music files
he's yup, that's pretty big,we're going to have to move this file to one of our systems and then restore it after the fix
"yeah I know I thought to myself"
"you boys hit the mother lode today" fuckers should be payin' me
my girlfriend was in on my consternation
she's "they see this type shit all the time"
yeah well,but it's me

what's really funny is the next night me and big tit blondie go to some chamber of commerce banquet
and who do you fuckin' guess has a table right next to my company's?
"geeks-r-us"
and I come in with tits-o-rama
she thought it was hilarious and truth be told I kinda saved face
geeks-r-us spent the whole banquet shakin' down my date

You got bit by Windows Genuine Advantage, and it identified and flagged your bootleg version of XP? Is it still nagging you after all this time?

Yep.

Tried a program/hack to change the registry number, but it didn't work.

Microsoft, as massive as their OS installation base is, has long become an easy target for viruses. That's fucked up though. I for one am happy with computers now being that mine is finally up and running with a new cpu, heatsink and cooling fan. Eventually I'll upgrade from scratch but in this day and age being without a computer completely like I have been the past two + weeks is a royal pain. My PS3 browser held me over for the internet but I'm relieved to finally be using the fully functional Firefox once again. Not to mention a keyboard/mouse combo.

Perhaps these will help-

http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

You could also try doing a system restore to a date before you did the update.
Use the hard drive reformat /OS reinstallation options as a last resort.

It's not an email scam... it's "technically" not a virus. It's from Microsoft themselves.

I know

But I seem to recall reading about some way to circumvent this MS virus thingy, so I thought I'd bump this.

What 3rd party anti-virus software are you using, and is it updated?
If your pc never froze up before doing the MS updates I'd call or email them and get them to fix it.
...Unless you were still using XP service pack 1 when you tried doing the update...you need service pack 2 for them to work.

The computer freezing might not have been related. I don't know. The MS thing was from MS themselves, and isn't technically a virus.

THIS is the "virus": http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/

All it is is a 2-hour repeating popup saying "Your version of MS might not be validated". (Read: give us money for your copied version of MS.)

I managed to delete two WGA.dll and .exe files that *so far* seem to eliminate the 2-hour repeating popup, but not the x-second wait upon startup. My computer won't let me delete the two additional files, and I don't know if or how they're interconnected, so messing with the files is probably out.

Try these, might help-

http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10401314.html?tag=lst-0-1

http://www.download.com/Registry-Mechanic/3000-2094_4-10566526.html

There are some spyware and small viruses that are always on my pc no matter how many times I try to delete them (any variety of the "...32.exe" for example). I do use a router now though, so that might help pad my interwebs security from all the bs out there.

Also, update to service pack 2 for XP if you haven't already done so; that might also help.

Spybot, that's the one I was trying to think of. Yeah, the system32 dll files are a bitch and usually buried in the registry keys, as is one that I just found earlier today.

I don't think anything will fix the MS WGA virus without digging in the keys.

Bro, I got the 17" Macbook Pro. It does everything but jerk me off. A bit of a learning curve..but just smooth and solid. It has a mind of it's own...it almost knows what I want to do.

Mac = The hottest woman alive, perfect body in white thigh highs, see thru thong licking whipped cream off of her fingers seductively, and then looking you dead in the eyes, asking : "Will you please FUCK me?"

Windows = Bag lady with her whole life in a shopping cart asking you for a dime.

If Mac got into the videogame industry they'd probably dominate. At least quality-wise. Although Nintendo has a good quality track record, as well as the PS3 so far.

Now that Mac is using the Intel chips...all KINDS of software companies are chomping at the bit to write new software for the Mac.

Check out www.apple.com

I'm telling you guys...Mac is gonna eat Microsoft alive.

Goodnight Bill...AND your faggot blue screen lol...I'll dump my physical memory in your skinny ass mother fucker.

it is too bad Apple's hardware is proprietary and no one else can make parts for them and they are more expensive. I will stick with my XP and Server 2003

That will be the next phase...Gates underestimated his former partner. Steve Jobs was the brains of the operation.

u need a valid serial key??

pm me if necessary

We actually have some, lol. But for whatever reason, the hack we used didn't get rid of the damned WGA files.

There's a couple other things to try tomorrow...

They did a magazine cover together in the early '90's.
