Back in 1994, Vince was in Federal Court defending his
ass on a lot of criminal charges (remember Hulk Hogan
saying Vince gave him and all the guys steroids?) ...
about this time the World Wildlife Fund came out with
their own lawsuit, suing Vince for the name. Anyways,
long story short, they entered into an agreement that
admitted that Vince's WWF might cause some market confusion
with the Wildlife's WWF. Vince was just trying to end the
issue so he could concentrate on keeping his ass outta
prison.
Recently, a judge in Europe ruled that the WWF trademark
belonged to the World Wildlife Fund,
prodominantly because of the 1994 agreement. Thus, WWF = WWE. THe reason they
changed it to something so similar was probably because of the
cost. The 'new' logo is just a matter of 'erasing' the F. So the
transition, economically speaking, has been seamless. But shit,
I'd think the WCW logo/brand would be something far better to
go to, since they own that, rather than creating the lame, and
to the masses, unexplained, change to WWE.
