Why are threads closed or locked?

What good does this really do, other than not allowing someone to speak further on a topic? I can see it if a bunch of threads with jibberish and solely purposed to flood the board are being locked, but as for long threads with a lot of discussion, I don't get it. What harm is being done? It's a dicussion board isn't it? It's not like we are speaking about a legal matter and are risking prosecution if we continue. Just a thought.

If so, I do not believe there anymore reason to discuss this topic.
It's been finalized by the Mods. The ban lifts,

I totally agree on this. The mods on this forum can be immature and over-censoring at times.

But in any case, this thread will probably get locked soon as well. : /

Not the Unban BBF thread inparticular, but it did bring on my question. Fair enough if a mod doesn't feel there is anymore reason to discuss a topic, but what if others do? Is it really hurting anyone to do so? Without good topics to talk about a message board ceases to exist. I just don't see the point.

We use our best judgement in each situtation, and true not all of us mods share the same views or opinions,thats where the mod forum comes in.
As for Fxygel i'm old enough to be your father(I'm not tho thank goodness)
As far as immature i think not, regardless what a mod does their opinion is respected, its not easy being a mod whether a thread is moved,locked,etc its hard to second guess the situtation, alot of thought and opinions are discussed before a thread is addressed.
Whatever the outcome there will always be some who are dis -satisified of the outcome.

Yeah, I'm definitely not calling out any mods or questioning anyone's judgement at all. I just don't see how it benefits anybody to lock a thread in a lot of cases.
