I had to write a large check to myself in order to clean out a bank account I wanted to close.

I, due to my extreme drowsiness at the time the check was written, wrote it for more than I had in the account and then deposited it. Noticing my error, I quickly called the other bank and asked for a stop payment.

The deposited check cleared in my bank account, yet the stop payment was processed and the money has been returned to the other account.

I think I just cloned my money.

notify the issuing bank ASAP, or the words bank fraud may rear their ugly heads!

There may be a time limit for the bank to catch the error. Don't touch the money and find out what that time limit is.

A guy in California got a stupid "novelty" type check in a mass mailing as a "You could win" type thing. He endorsed it and deposited it. The bank honored it and didn't catch the mistake. After a certain amount of time, the money was his and the bank couldn't do squat.

frorider, I think that $93,000 story involved months and months of legal hassles etc... not worth it for the amount in question here.

I'm calling ShittyBank now to find out wtf. They're going to find out anyway and at least this way my check book will make sense.
